Wukong Buff

Dear Riot,

Please buff Wukong? Why? I want to see him in Pro Play. I propose we give him immunity to slow and small MS boost while invis when activating his decoy ability

Wukong's popularity in solo queue has been on the rise, and he is proving to be a massive force. However, this is only true because our fellow summoners prioritize playing their favorite champions over playing the meta. While champion select is important in solo queue, it is not as emphasized as it is in pro play, which allows a variety of champions to spotlight - including Wukong.

However, we don't want to break the monkey king and make him a must pick/ban champion. In the current meta, and seemingly all metas going forward, Wukong is always going to be nonviable in pro play due to his early weaknesses. His weakness isn't so much his kit as it is the type of champions Riot has been pushing out as of late. Here's some analysis:

Why Wukong cannot compete top/mid lane:

  1. Wukong loses to sustain champions. How many Wukong players struggle against champions that build armor and have built in sustain? Think Trundle, Renekton, Darius, and Fiora.

  2. Wukong loses to CC. Wukong relies heavily on his combo to do damage. As a melee champion, he is easily rooted/stunned to prevent him from pull this off. At the same time, with AOE slow being so available in this game, Wukong has trouble performing his poke and back tactic. Even if he can decoy, the aoe slow will still affect him and allow champions to simply stay in the area until they gain vision.

Therefore, when people play Wukong, they mostly play Jungle. Due to the wide availability of counters Wukong has, he can't survive early game in lane. However, while it is safer for Wukong in the jungle, he still has early sustain issues as well as slow early clears. This makes him very susceptible to aggressive junglers who can clear fast and invade. Wukong is considered a level 6 jungler due to having only one form of CC and slow clears. It doesn't make sense that his jungle paths are also so dangerous.

So how do we push him into competitive play? Wukong does not need to be stronger. He does enough damage as is - but he does need a safer early game. I believe providing wukong immunity to slow effects and small MS boost when activating his W decoy ability is the a good buff for him. The buff would have little affect offensively offensive purposes and would greatly help his defense as he is able to make more highlight juke plays. He'll still have the same weakness mentioned earlier, but at least instead of having zero chance of survival, he can now potentially play to his intended strengths and out-juke his opponents. Wukong's counter is suppose to be true vision from a defensive standpoint. As of now, it seems his weakness is pretty much everything besides doing nothing. Everyone is buying movement speed. Everyone is buying slows. Champions being picked are mobile CC machines. Wukong is naturally countered as all of these elements counter his trademark decoy plays.

In summary, such a buff would highlight his strength (monkeying around, something that is simply too easy to counter right now) while not increasing his threat level. He'll still spike mid game with early sustain issues and slow clear times. However, it will make it harder for the enemy to take advantage of that and kill him early game. There's no point of having a strong mid-late game when you have no way of getting there, which is why he's not being picked in pro play. Thank you for the consideration.

Wukong is pretty strong rn, he doesn't need a buff. he's stronger as a jungler and a top, and that's fine. if everyone were better as a top than a jungler, there'd be no junglers. and he is not a level 6 jungler. his pre-6 ganks provide stealth, mobility, and damage. while it is true that he can't lock someone down pre-6 in the same way that a Maokai can, he brings much more to his laners pre-6 than Malphite , Warwick , etc.
