Resistance and it's effect on your effective health

So most of us have seen the mathematics behind "effective health". You are suppose to achieve 1% effective health for every 1 resistance (armor or magic resist) that you build. So at 2000 health, if you purchase 100 armor, that 100 armor essentially means that in order for you to die to only physical damage, you need to take another 2000 damage. Because when you purchased 100 armor, you had 2000 health. However, in game when you purchase resistance, the number of reduced damage you take is very low... and as you gain more and more resistance, the % of damage you take is reduced less and less. So how does this work?

However, in game when you purchase resistance, the number of reduced damage you take is very low... and as you gain more and more resistance, the % of damage you take is reduced less and less. So how does this work?

It works as fallows:

100 armor/MR is 50% damage reduction, or 1/2 damage taken. 200 armor/MR is 66.67% damage reduction, or 1/3 damage taken. 300 armor/MR is 75% damage reduction, or 1/4 damage taken. 400 armor/MR is 80% damage reduction, or 1/5 damage taken. 500 armor/MR is ~83% damage reduction, or 1/6 damage taken.

The % numbers appearing to be worse and worse is more a trick of the mind and an issue with perception vs. reality. Easier to think of them as fractions.

Armor and MR effectivly stack in exactly the same way HP does, as starting with 1000 HP and getting another will allow you to take 2 OHKO combos, or 1/2 damage. Another 1000 HP will allow you to take 3 OHKO combos, or reduce an OHKO combo to 1/3 your max health, etc.
