@CertainlyT Why was Mordekaiser reworked into his least optimal lane?

In Top Morde has a high chance of fighting other CQC champions, Mid the lane is shorter so it's easily for him to get away from ganks even thought ganks have more routes to come from, (doubled edged sword). Also while in mid while he might be our ranged 90% of the time but he is still capable of wave clearing with his Old Q,W,E so he can farm under tower or do whatever the player feels needs to be done with the wave.

At bot lane, with the new changes Morde is entirely reliant on his ally's help to scale in and out of lane. Alone he's the most kiteable champion in the game with no form of CC, no MS boosts or range. He's almost assured a defeat in lane unlike his other juggernaut cousins who are able to survive to the late game.

While with his W passive he gets EXP faster but he doesn't get gold. No one's winning a game of league with no items.

Personally I think this was a miss of a rework for Morde and if you feel a champion like this reworked Morde absolutely needs to happen, then why not give it to Yorick. All the abilities are right along the same path.

An AD smack'em ghoul, a healing ghoul that would give EXP, an ranged damage ghoul and a revive ghoul. Yorick can even take the dragon with him with him as well and buffs too. That'd be cool allowing for Jungle Yorick. Speaking of Jungle in this rework, I've been seeing alot of people saying they're just going to turn this into Jungle Morde. Not sure what that will bring so I might as well test it on the PBE.

P.S. Not sure if this belongs in Gameplay & Balance or Skins & Champion Concepts since technically the new Morde isn't out yet. Sorry if it's in the wrong place.

I can see where you, and many many others are coming from, but as someone who has played new morde, I can tell you that his laning phase is NOT bad. Morde's new 25% minimum shield, minimum shield amount from using E, armor per level and HP per level, alongside with his 200 range auto attacks make him a MUCH better bot laner than people think.

Mordekaiser, while melee, has all the tools necessary to sustain through ranged harass. To top this off, he also has a heal, and will always have a stat advantage, because of that W passive. Mordekaiser will always hit level 2 and 6 first, making him immune to a lot of bot lane cheese. No ranged character in early-mid portions of the game can outrange mordekaiser's E, which at level 1-6 can give you 100% shield if aimed properly. The concerns of him not being able to farm are largely unfounded, I've found. He will obviously have matchups that are better and worse, such as Ashe and Blue Ezreal, but against a large portion of ADCs, Mordekaiser is 100% fine. Not to mention there are no marksman with sustain abilities, and Mordekaiser has his W, and the option of high sustain starts, such as cloth armor or the Relic Shield, which ALSO gives the support more gold, alongside sustaining the both of them.

For stickiness, early game, these things are true, Mordekaiser will rarely, without a support, land all of his abilities. However, Mordekaiser's itemization choices are what address this. Trinity Force into Rylai's, or Phage into Rylai's into a Trinity Force, addresses basically all of the concerns about Mordekaiser's stickiness, while still giving him an insane amount of damage. With full base AD, that pushes his Q, with those two items only, to do about 2200 raw hybrid damage, split about half way. And he WOULD get all of that off, because Trinity Rylai's is very hard to get away from.

I've been playing him as well, the part that makes this a terrible idea is that CT has destroyed the way people play Morde.

The heal only works if one of the two people is near the minions of enemy's aka in harass range, the E doesn't have as good scaling or range to out trade any ADC other then Vayne or Quinn and the Q takes to long to get all the procs off and Morde is still easily kited. This is why so many are just saying Morde's a jungler now. With his Q doing massive damage and his E angled right you can do a full clear at the start of the game easily.

I've played it as stated above it's not the end of the world it's just not Morde. Morde was a potent Anti-Assassin champion before this. He could see success anywhere with the grueling affect of playing him being his mobility.

I encourage you to play him live ASAP then play this new version, you'll quickly see that it's an overall lost for Morde. Not only doses it destroy his ID but it makes it so all the other Morde mains now can't have what they are.

This ins't Mordekaiser, someone just stole his armor and mace. The people who main reworked champions shouldn't be alienated from the changes. Isn't that basically the ground rule of a rework? Keeping to a Champions ID and overall concept is key in a situation like this. Morde isn't a brute, he's like Shao Kahn. A warlord with immense magical power held together by hated and dread. It seems CT's idea of Morde is "If he doesn't break with the first swing, he'll just hit it harder and harder" when the real one is just like Darth Sion, but with more of a sense of control.

Again he's not a brute but a general of an undead army. Pain is his ally and misery is his little sister.

Yeah, I agree with most of your points. People are just trashing on the rework, and I want to point out that new Morde isn't bad, he's just different. He may not be morde exactly, but he IS still a decent champion, that works in his new intended role. I feel people are giving the actual rework flak where it doesnt deserve, because its so different. The thing that makes E a great shield ability despite scaling is the extra shield generation per champion hit. That bumps up his ability to generation shields bot lane VERY hard.

It's viable but only to those who understand it.

It's just an overall kick to the balls of all current Morde players with no real reason to why it happened. Now Morde can only bot or jungle and that's the frustrating part. Nothing that he did before is what he's doing now and that's why the rework is a failure purely by concept.

Riot just released a whole new champion with an older's name.

People just want to talk to CT and understand why he did these changes while there is still time to change them but...

Actually, I think his top lane is still possible. Mid lane is all but dead, but I think top lane morde may still be doable. But in general, we seem to have the same ideas.
