Will Mordekaiser retain his anti-assassin playstyle when he gets updated?

I really feel in love with Morde once I found out that the only way to beat him was to out range him and not to all him him. This was during the crazy assassin days and it was nice having a defense against the insta gibbing assassins.

So far it seems Riot keeps to champion id's but I've only been playing since early season 4 and playing Morde since late season 4. I'm not entirely sure what his ID might of started as but I really enjoy his destroy anything in front of me style.

Will Mordekaiser retain his anti-assassin playstyle when he gets updated?

Probably.

If he gets updated/reworked, he'll probably become more of a tanky DPS champion and less of a glass-cannon-that-becomes-tanky-when-he-bursts deal. Currently, he's pretty similar to pre-rework Sion in that his aesthetic is not in line with his build path/play style. More likely than not Riot is going to make him feel more like the Sion of now.

Which is good news if you want him to counter assassins, because that's by and large what tanky DPS champions do. Assassins are all about speed. They use speed to survive, and deliver their burst of damage fast (so using speed to survive works). Speed is great vs. range as a defensive mechanic, and both tend to cancel one-another out in a 1v1. Speed is not great vs. raw defense, as moving around doesn't give much of an advantage: especially for melee-range assassins vs. melee-range fighters. Fighters want you in melee range. Burst also isn't that amazing vs. defense, as with burst and how it scales you generally want to take it to the point where you can do 110% of a squishie's HP and drop them in 1 combo. Vs. a fighter, the struggle is pretty real to accomplish that. And Mordekaiser will likely retain being very sustained-damage heavy in any foreseeable rework, which is just going to be bad news bears for any assassin he runs into.

I kinda think he should have burst or at least be able to heavily chunk people in 1 rotation

from a thematic standpoint, it's definitely plausible that a guy wielding a massive mace and demonstrating knowledge of necromancy/other dark magic would hit hard and fast, and still have the ability to whittle you down

if anything, from a gameplay angle, having no strong utility or mobility should be a red flag that he should be THE damage pump; making him focus on building tanky without proper compensation (ie higher bases, probably at the cost of some range to his E). it's mostly compensated in his huge AoE potential, much more than other mages, but i think it's logical that a giant armored magic-using, mace-wielding menace would be able to pump out some serious hurt in every form of the word

Death to anti-assassins. They deserve to burn in hell.

Looks like no - Morde won' t have ccs and stuff, and this is fine, but je will lose a bit of burst, so you can' t punish quickly the assassins.

Not like he won' t be able to burst toh, apparently, but for that we gonna see.
