How does rank solo work?

Hi, I started playing rank solo last week for the first time. How does this mmr work? Recently I was placed to silver 5 (had a 6 winning streak) and then when I finished the promos, I got into silver 3. I usually get about 27-30lp per win and lose around 12-16lp. Can you increase the amount of lp by winning and is it possible for me to had skip another division or two (like silver 3 to silver 1/gold 5)? I want gold for my solo this season. Also, we have a 5v5 team we play for fun, and majority are plats. That 5v5 team got into gold last season and silver 1 this season I believe. Will that have an affect in the solo que mmr? Sorry for the noob question!;)

This is gonna be a long wall of text, just a heads up.

MMR is based off of the Elo Rating System(wikipedia). The basic premise is, you are given a rating at the very beginning of your career, and then you gain or lose MMR based on several points in each game you played (your score, allies' score, win/lose, and length of the game to name those I think of). MMR is not always the same as LP. If you win many LP for winning a match and lose few for losing (I believe "many" caps out at 35 and "few" bottoms out at 1) then it's likely that you are facing people that the MMR system sees as "better" than you, because their rating is higher than yours. The "goal" of the MMR system is that when you reach a 50% winrate (1 win for each loss), you have reached a "plateau" and to win more, you have to MonkeyKing improve your skill!
