If a Teammate is AFK for 5 Minutes, The Rest of The Team Should be Allowed to Leave the Game.
I want to have a serious discussion about being held captive in a match. I play a lot of ARAM's and there tends to be a high frequency of games where one player on a team never leaves spawn. The normal /ff time in this game mode is 15 minutes, which is reasonable for a 5v5 stomp, and I have no issue with that time in a normal 5v5 circumstance. My issue lies with being stuck in a 4v5 for a minimum of 15 minutes when the win percentage for the 4 man team is probably around .05% or less.
I played Dota 2 as my first MOBA many years ago and made the switch to League around Season 5. The one area of Dota 2 that I believe is much better than League is the penalty / allowing players to leave system. If a player on your team was AFK/DC'd for 5 consecutive minutes, the game was the safe to leave and there was no penalty to anyone who left after that time was allowed to pass. The player who was AFK got the appropriate penalty based on the number of times they have done something "report" worthy, the winning team still got their W and the losing team still got the L, which is fine by me. Even better was if the 4 man team had the AFK for the first 5 minutes, they weren't assessed the loss at all!
I think that for the overall health of the game it was better for those "guaranteed stomps" to be completed as quickly as possible, so that not only the team that is at the disadvantage is allowed to leave and enjoy an even match, but also for the 5 man team to do the same thing. Personally I don't like either side of a 4v5 because I know it's not a fair fight, and thus not how the game is meant to be played.
I don't know what the time length should be to allow a team quit, but I strongly believe that it is something that should be taken into consideration for the overall health of League of Legends.
Please, let us discuss how we can implement these type changes so that players can be in more even, competitive, and fun matches.
