If your MMR doesn't match your elo, you'll get demoted after 1-3 losses. I'm in plat and I didn't get demoted after like 10 losses in a row.
You get 3 games protection only immediately after promotion to a new division, and it's 3 games (win or lose), not 3 safe losses at 0 LP as people sometimes mistakenly think.
Beyond that, demotions are based on your mmr relative to your rank. If you've finagled things so you have a challenger mmr despite being bronze 4 0LP, someone could probably literally lose 50 games in a row and not be demoted. On the other hand, if you have a bronze mmr while gold 4, you'd pretty much certainly be demoted immediately after your first unprotected loss at 0LP.
You lost 8 matches in a row while having Bronze 1 mmr according to op.gg. I'm not sure what you expect.
