support Sion... why does nobody play him? Personally, he's my go-to support pick; if I follow this plan I generally win lane: Begin with a relic shield and a refilling potion, and a red trinket start E, or Q if I have to leash. Walk into lane, spam E to poke, and at level 2 hide in a bush where they can't see the Q animation, sweep the bush if they ward it, at level 6 wait for the ADC's mobility to be on cooldown somehow, and charge in. If I hit the ADC, they're pretty much dead, if I chain my abilities and exhaust properly. Can any of you folks share with me why literally no one plays him? Perhaps I am only going on this absurd rant because I got placed in b5 from the broken ranking system, so maybe I've only been playing against nooblets who can't dodge Sion 's abilities?

EDIT: Forgot to mention one of my favorite things about sion: When you die in bot lane but your ADC lives, as is often the case, you deny the enemy bot lane the opportunity to chase down your bot lane, because sion's passive does is easily kited, but if enemies ignore him and tunnel on your ADC sion can punish them. Hard.

What you describe can definitely work, but he has 2 main problems.

First, what do you do if THEY engage on YOUR carry? He has lots of CC, but they are all kinda situational. His Q need to charge or is only a slow, his E you need a minion as a projectile or you slow only 1 champ, his ult is easy to miss, especially in a panic during a gank or stuff like that.

Second, how do you farm your W passive as a Support? Sion base HP are relatively low, for a Tank, because he has this awesome passive that gives him a lot of HP anyway, but if you don't farm it, it's not so good.

tl;dr: not the best of supports, because it's kinda hard to defend someone and your stats are kinda "meh", but it can still work with his huge amount of CC and his awesome initiations, that are not gold/farm dependent.

You have a ponit there... sion's health is kinda poopy if you don't farm at all, but sion's ability set is not terrible at peeling for AD carries. sure, he's not Morgana-Tier good, but sion's plan is a bit similar to Leona's: Initiate a fight, and force the enemy to react and peel for their own AD carry, rather than waiting for the enemy to engage. If sion's ganked, or he's forced into a situation where he needs to escape, sion can do one of two things: pussy mode activate, where sion's ulti can bail him out of a situation 80 percent of a time, or sacrifice himself in the fray and use his passive to deal such damage that the pursuers abandon your beloved AD carry. Oh, and in lane it's super easy to hit the enemy with a minion, if the enemy is playing passive. If they're not playing passive, sion can land a stun, if the enemy is in such range.

He's fun as hell in support. But you can't make most of his W health stacking there.

...Poppy is played support. Just because a champion is made support doesn't mean they're trash.

One thing I can think about is his W passive: you get HP for killing units, but meh - you are support, so no lasthitting. Other than that it's cool :)

Well you get HP on champion assists also. So unless you ADC is farming kills then it's not great.

I play Sion support. It's okay. He's my go to tank support if I don't want to go my ziliean/zyra/vel'koz support.

I like him because I can control the minion wave easily and have range harass with E. I start Q to push hard level 1 and rush for level 2 to get the advantage. You Q the first wave.

Also his invades with Q start are extremely good.

You'll still get a decent amount of HP from your relic shield stacks, so whatever. If you are lower ELO (Plat and below) it's not like your crap team knows how to farm anyway.
