Idea for a potential Kassadin changes/buffs

It's no secret that Kassadin KassadinKassadin is not in the best of states for soloqueue and regular, non organized play. I had a few ideas on potential changes to his abilities that could make him a bit better for non-pros.

  1. Q: Null Sphere: Change the shield on Kassadin's Q to block all types of damage, not just magic damage. Current Kassadin struggles against AD champions, especially Talon and Zed. Giving him a shield to absorb both physical and magic damage would give him a bit more survivability in these matchups that he loses so handily.

  2. W: Nether blade: Kassadin's current W is little more than an auto attack reset. I have a couple ideas for potential changes to it -----Make the bonus auto attack damage increase with ranks. -----Have the cooldown on Nether Blade decrease by a certain amount of time with each auto attack, like Shyvana's Q One or both of these changes would reward Kassadin with more persistent damage for sticking to his targets, would let him survive more matchups than just Katarina and Azir, and would give Kassadin the ability to actually survive in the jungle (which is something I personally want to try)

Keep in mind that these are just ideas. I'm no expert on balance, so I couldn't begin to suggest numbers for his ablities. These are just a few ideas that I wanted to throw out there and see what people think of them

I don't really think kassadin is THAT weak tbh. If you look at his player statistics people who are very expereince with him have a over 50% winrate (which is somewhat low for experienced players) but thats 8% up from his lowest winrate which is around 42% for new players or inexperienced players. You just have to be quite skilled at the champ to have a decent winrate. Azir is currently in a worse spot, his lowest winrate being 31% on new players and 52% on very experienced players.

If they could think of some buff that would make him stronger on new players and minimally stronger on experienced players he would be in a great spot, but I'm not exactly sure what they should do.

I find your ideas pretty cool , but they weren't implemented because of a few reasons. I will discuss about every point:

  1. Despite of his considered bad-matchups vs AD champions , most of the AP champions prefer to use Auto-Attacks when Kassadin uses his Q , and use a spell after his Q expires(if they get the time to use one). So , while it helps him against heavy AD champions , this change will have a more significant change for the Mages he fights in the early game, making his trades simply better.

  2. As a side note: many AD mid laners are actually melee , so his trades in terms of damage are good if you get the W on them. After level 6 , they can't really chase you( except one guy...). So , Zed is a pain for Kassadin , while the others can be manageable. Ranged champions are too squishy or don't have the superior damage the melee ones have.

  3. They tested a version of W , where his damage per auto-attack would scale if you rank it , giving him a slightly better amount of damage after rank 3. This resulted in a more difficult time for him vs melee champions because of the low damage it offers if you don't Max it first. While it is good to Max W first , his Q is much more reliable from higher range to bonus shield that will help you against almost everyone ( even Zed's passive deals magic damage! ).

  4. The cooldown reduce per basic is an interesting idea, that would be great to be tested , but we need to see the results of the new Kassadin buffs on the PBE first , then maybe they can test your idea.

For people who want to see the PBE buffs for Kassadin : http://www.newsoflegends.com/index.php/pbe-1410-changes-to-kassadin-in-client-lore-for-shadow-isle-champions-48049/

So ... Yeah xD I would love the W idea of reduced cooldown per basic attack. Upvoted for great inspiration :D

You guys are asking for a lot of bugs that don't need to exist on this board. After his recent ult buff, Kassadin is honestly a fine champion to play, he's just difficult to do well with, which is fine by me. He really isn't bad.

I'll go through the proposed buffs now.

  1. That's your fault for picking Kass into an AD champion. He's an anti Mage, not an anti everything. He shouldn't get a shield because he has bad match ups, that removes counters.

  2. His w is fine, and it is actually one of my favorite abilities on him, it feels very powerful. He is already (for some reason) getting a cooldown buff on it, that change isn't very needed. If anything, that would make a sheen build more gimicky and annoying. He would have a "slap you up" play style instead of assassinating.

So yea, I feel Kassasin is fine. He's just hard to do well with. He has hyper carry capabilities late game, and in return, had a horrid early game vs a lot of champions. This is how carries SHOULD be instead of like Vayne for example that gets one kill and all of a sudden her, "bad early game" is gone. Kassadin takes multiple kills to get rolling, but he carries hard if you play it right after getting them.

Kass is meant to be an anti Mage, he absolutely doesn't need a regular damage shield on his Q.

As a kassadin main I think he is perfectly fine, borderline overpowered even. You can look at my recent games if you want an idea of what im talking about. I definatly don't want to see him buffed just so bad kassadins can do well with him. Just look at his statistics for those who played him a lot. It's ridiculous.

  1. Don't blind pick Kass into lane if you can't go at least even against his counters.

How about making his blink range scale with AP/Mana? XD
