Is Yorick newbie friendly?

Malfini··2 votes·775 views

I am currently playing with Diana and Volibear for AD/tanks champs since I mostly been playing AP. Not sure if those are AD's but I think Diana, Volibear (Majestic Roar and Thunder Claw are both magic damage), and Yorick are hybrid champions that can go either AP and or AD.

And am wondering if Yorick is newbie friendly so I can play him to widen champion pool.

TBH I've never played him, but I would say no- Yorick doesn't fit into the meta, so he'll be difficult to do well on AND you'll probably attract the attention of flamers who will blame you for losses. Also he's literally been left in the garbage by Riot...

Yorick is supposed to get a rework this year,so I'd say it isn't worth learning to play him now only for him to get completely changed in a few months.

EDIT: Besides yorick goes almost completely AD. Only his W has an AP-ratio,so going fully AP doesn't look like a viable option.

AP is pretty garbage on him, the ratio on the W is pretty good but everything else scales on AD, including the minions damage, so even the AD scales better for your W minion.

Yorrick is going to get a complete rework sometime this year so i wouldn't bother trying to learn him now. If you're looking for tanks similar to Diana and Voli then i would suggest:

If you're ok with low mobility and want damage while building almost full tank Chogath Darius Garen Galio Illaoi Nasus TahmKench

want to experiment with tanky AP builds Gragas Chogath Maokai Swain Sejuani Zac Malphite

want to experiment with tanky AD builds Garen Gnar Hecarim JarvanIV Urgot Renekton Shyvana Trundle MonkeyKing Vi

want a lot of cc and utility Nautilus Shen Sion TahmKench Leona Sejuani

I'm listing them for their low skill floor (its ok that some of these have high skill ceilings, that means you will have room to grow into the champion and will improve by playing them) and i'm guessing you want to go top lane. Some of these can double as junglers/supports/ or even mid laners in some circumstances.

Good luck!

Of those you listed, which ones have high skill ceilings? Thank you.

hmmm. Bear in mind this is only my opinion, so others might disagree, but i would say

Sejuani Gnar Hecarim JarvanIV Renekton Vi Nautilus Shen Sion Gragas

all have high skill ceilings in their own way. I play the last 5 fairly heavily so i might be a bit biased.

He's boring-boring. Don't try him at home kids.

Volibear usually just stacks tank items because his W deals more damage the more HP he has though yes he deals both magic and physical damage.. W + Q and auto attacks being physical damage and R + E being magic damage

Diana is usually built as an AP mage who blow up the enemy with Q + R + R (with W throw in there somewhere)

Yorick is a rather simple champion... max your E and just toss it at the enemy all the time (it damages them and heals you) and his abilities are almost impossible to mess up Just remember to build Tear item 3070 --> item 3004 and Iceborn Gauntlet item 3025 since Yorick needs a lot of mana to keep spamming his ghouls and harass down his enemy over and over again Oh and in teamfights... don't waste your ult on mages/tanks who have already use their abilities For example if Annie have already use her ult and all of her abilities... allowing her to come back to life and fight for a little longer won't really help much as her abilities would still be on cooldown

Nogrim1 votes

shouldn't bother wasting it on anything but your ADC, it doesnt save them anyways so it is best to use them more like a morde ult slave, and just use them to boost your team damage output (never plan to let the person you clone die while its active its a total waste imho)

the clone does same damage as the player, so they can make a 2 man push on a tower into a three.

Champion Skin1 votes

The clone does NOT deal the same damage as a player.. it deals.... 45 / 60 / 75% of target's AD... however if the target dies... then it deals 100% AD and can also use abilities like steroids which increase damage which most ADC's have... or if use on a mage that died before using any abilities... now suddenly that mage get to use all of their abilities and cause problems for the enemy without having to worry about being killed

which would be the ideal scenario, but having played yorick as much as i have the likely hood of some one knowing how his ult works is really low honestly, most people think they've been revived and try to escape.

in higher level and voice teams i agree with your assessment, i usually save that for myself due to being able to spam green in the middle of their team and stall any sort of counter push when i go down.

if more people reliably understood how the ult worked, it would be a lot more powerful than it generally is.

Ok Diana is an ap fighter. Yorick is an ad fighter. While he is kind of friendly to newer players (point and click ability's) I would hold off from playing him. He has a rework in the pipeline (the re announced it recently but they also announced it like 2 years ago so maybe not) Voli is a tank/bruiser so you build three defensive items and only two offensive ones.

Annie (ap mid), Garen (bruiser top), Ezreal(adc bot), Soraka(support), are my picks for easy to learn champions. Ez is the hardest i think in that list as he's all skill shots but its a good idea to have one of those early as you can then learn how to time your shots to hit targets who are trying to dodge.

so i recently mastery 5'd him.

are you talking noobie to the game or noobie to him. if you are new to the game or top in general i would say no, if you are just new to him he can be a bit tough to get used to.

the upside is not many people are used to fighting him, and he will never get banned lol.

the biggest learning curve comes from knowing how the minion AI works, you can really extend his threat range once you understand how their ai range works. focus on maxing your W or E first (W slow and range are very good at blocking skill shots and shutting down chases, E will give you your best sustain via the life steal.)

the other thing to remember is his minons gain AD and HP based on iirc 35% of yoricks, so manamune and warmog synergize well on him.

yorick imho is more of a tank/utility brawler, he is a lot harder to kill than most people think and being able to clone your ADC for a big surge in team damage (much more useful to use it this way than like a zilean ult) or when you want to bait a team with the clone

Malfini1 votes

Newbie to the game.

Nogrim1 votes

if that is the case i wouldn't recommend him for ranked for sure.

try him out in a bot match, its a good way to get used to how the minions track enemy champions. personally i advocate starting out W>E>W>Q>W.. skip his ult until you have maxed both W and E (its not that useful and gives you a false sense of security the revive is only temporary, so you are better off maxing E earlier)

rush manamune (the recent change really makes a big QoL difference for yorick, then get your boots, then warmog that should give you a nice chunk of damage and some decent health that way your minions are hitting decently, and have enough Hp to not be one shotted.

abuse your W minion to force the enemy champ out of last hit range, keep your distance and use your Q to snag easy last hits (keeping it low rank early keeps it cheap so you can spam it)

Champion Skin1 votes

Why Warmogs? There are other HP items which gives more stuff then just a lot of HP... (and Yorick probably won't need the regen that much with his E)

Nogrim1 votes

the reason being the regen spike when you do disengage, the Q minions speed boost will get you out of most situations and Mog allows you to regain health while you back out of range of your red (saving you mana to block them with green)

being that he is so tanky you can rush in and draw a lot of fire, back out after dropping a Q and be back in the fight at full hp to finish off the fight.

again this is personal preference, results may vary.
