2 options

A) If it was a norm, your rank means nothing. You could literally be a challenger player and still be matched with Silvers in norms.

B) It was a ranked game, you were DynQing with a high Gold player, and got matched vs a low PLat player that was DynQing with a low Diamond player.

Option be is improbable.

tier you mean. otherwise that gp would have been silver 2, unless you faced someone silver two. division is the number, tier is bronze, silver, gold and such.

as for the actual question, normal mmr isn't ranked mmr so you can face challengers while bronze 5 even.

Unranked games don't take rank into consideration.

How can people fail to understand such a simple concept?

I faced a plat 2 when I was unranked and 2 games out of level 30. Normals has its own MMR.
