Why is Garen not as viable as Darius?
Just a question, they are both similar, but Darius is more popular, picked way more and in Garen vs Darius top, I mostly see Darius win. Why is that?

Unlike the rest of the juggernauts Garen has a bad laning phase which means he often gets bullied into also having a bad mid game. Which is where his supposed strength is.
Garen is very simple and doesn't have much that he can do in most situations. He's really just a on trick pony that tries to silence and spin to win an enemy while being very beefy, but darius can do much more since he has a short range pull, a self heal, a significant slow, true damage ult, and a passive that makes him nearly impossible to 1v1.
Darius is simply stronger. There are already well overdue nerfs for him in PBE.
Garen is viable.
Darius has the passive while Garen's spin has shred.
Because Darius is overpowered.

Garen is too simple and linear, which means he has to be slightly weak or else he's too strong.
Garen is terrible in lane for one. He gets destroyed by Darius.
Garen is One-Trick Pony personified; he runs at you and spins, that's it. He can't do anything vs a team with multiple slows or hard disengage, and for how bad he actually is in lane he doesn't scale well, either (at least not without going into a completely different build like crit or lethality).
Darius has a lot more options and counterplay and is thus favored by Riot, because he is a much more well designed and healthy champion.
I vs'ed a top Darius as a top Garen just last night, it wasn't very fun for me.
Reason really comes down to the fact Darius's passive counters Garen's. And considering the fact their kits are more or less mirrored, that they are both heavily integrated with passive in mind, and the fact Darius has arguably better CC and ultimate, Darius is thus objectively stronger, more popular than as well as replacing Garen.
Because Garen gets rewarded for roaming. And Darius gets rewarded for staying in lane and bullying. Guess what most people prefer.
