Why do overpowered champs like lux or aatrox get "changed" instead of nerfed?

Why do these op champs get changes that still make them too good while trash like galio gets blasted with even more nerfs and left in the dumpster?

Because no champion should be gutted, even cancer ones. Galio is a case where Riot doesnt know what they want to do with him, a tank? An anti mage diver? An AP bruiser? Every part of his kit does a little bit of something else, they need to decide what THEY want him to be and just balance him around that rather than doing ping pong between engager to mage to support etc..

No one said gut champions. I dont agree with Aatrox he's strong but i dont think he's over powered like many other champions. Lux on the other hand for years has high pick and win rate and usually only sees buffs and changes that give her more power in exchange for a revert to something she got as a straight buff before.

They nerfed her support power which was the main issue and removed her resets on R - a revert of the straight buff she got. In exchange her scaling got a bit stronger.

She's no weak by ANY MEANS but i think her toxic parts (R resets and double shield) have been dealt with, i wouldnt be against further small nerfs tho.

Lux has objectively been an issue for years while constantly getting buffs she is like riven where she never gets nerfed and only gets buffs or equal - better exchanges of power but it happens to her more often over the years. If any normal non riot fav champion had play rates and winrates like lux or arhi they'ed be hard gutted. Like Taric Trundle Bard Gragas J4

Not to mention doing a change like Aatrox's spares him of being in a perma loop of being nerfed too hard then being buffed back up, just to be nerfed back down again. Galio's issue stems to what happened on release for him. His mains cried for him to be more AP heavy, and Riot took it a whole different direction (aka the Galio Q one shot saga).
