Question regarding Bami's cinder triggering electrocute

Hey everyone,

Today I faced an Garen who I thought I had the jump on as Poppy. I've played against Garen as Poppy before and Garen is an easy to understand champion so its an pretty selfexplaining lane. Untill he started triggering his electrocute proc with bami's cinder. As soon as he got that item and I would come close when he'd Q me it would just trigger.

And the explenation on electrocute reads; PASSIVE: Basic attacks and abilities generate stacks on enemy champions hit, up to one per attack or cast. Applying 3 stacks to a target within a 3 second period causes them to be struck by lightning

Meaning you have to use autoattacks and abilities on QWER to get your stacks of electrocute.

Bami's cinder, or Sunfire cape both say that the damage you do from these two items is passive damage.. Meaning that its not considered an autoattack, nor the use of an ability..

So with that in mind.. WHY does this even happen? The discription makes it illogical for sunfire cape or bami's cinder to trigger the electrocute proc, (cause like I said the damage from bami's cinder isnt an autoattack nor the use of an ability) and whats more.. There is no real counterplay to this. (unless you just avoid Garen alltogether)

Cause in the end bami's cinder makes it so that you dont have to use resources (other then the cost of the item) to trigger an electrocute proc. What I found balanced about the electrocute rune was that people had to spend mana or time (cooldowns) on you, so taking damage still had some sort of an upside, and you could play around it.

This however felt a little to wierd and unfair and was wondering if others felt the same, and how people deal with this.

And as a sidequestion if they plan to do something about this cause this garen wrecked me when I am generally the one thats whooping Garen butt as Poppy.

Please dont think this some babyrage post, I am legit confused and hope someone who knows a bit more about stuff like this could elaborate a bit further.

It is triggered by a source of damage. Items, smite, ignite all also trigger electrocute.

Its been that way for 10 months now.

oh, so they fixed that?

pretty sure bamis cinder proccing electrocute is new. it was kindof a weird interaction.

like phase rush was triggered by item 3751 but not by item 3077 active, but electrocute was triggered by item 3077 but not by item 3751

maybe they changed both to trigger on all damage sources from items now?

edit.: nope. phase rush still doesnt work with tiamat active.
