So I tried learning the "FOTM" "OP" champions
I got out of Silver today. It was a little tougher than previous seasons (last season was just spamming Ezreal at 93% win rate). While doing so, I decided to learn some new champions who people call "FOTM" or "OP" and see how I do.
Here are my thoughts on them for your consideration (given that you know how to play the lanes properly and understand the champions' kit). Just take with a grain of salt.
: Surprisingly hard to play and difficult to bring about consistent performance in low elo. Wave/cs control with damage spread requires experience, as well as using it for harass. Jungle usually won't cover the lane for your early first back. Team feeds early and game is over before you get 2 cores. But I have seen people who have over 90% win rate with this champion in silver. I just find it super annoying to play against Lux, who is a long ranged champion that is played too often.
: Pretty amazing. Obviously won't be able to consistently use the advanced barrel mechanics but it's not required to do well. Very good overall. Power spike hits earlier than other carry champions, early game harass is good, very good lane control, safe, ult macro play, etc. Even if you perform poorly in lane, you still have good carry potential as long as your farm is okay.
: Already knew how to play this champion but he's not as good as people say he is for carrying low elo. Most people don't have the balance of mechanics and understanding of the game to play him properly. Period. Even if you do, you go 3/0 in lane every game in 10 minutes but always get focused in teamfights. Maybe because I played him in top lane (and we lacked a tank to soak up damage). Kind of hit or miss.
: Also hit or miss. You can destroy during the laning phase but if you meet a decent smurf, as you normally do in low elo, especially in top lane, you may not get to snowball as hard as you had hoped.
: She's good. People usually dodge your Q. Try to win the game in 20 minutes by ganking actively and letting the lanes snowball. I was surprised at how quickly you can kill dragons.
: This champions is very good. You can constantly gank the laners and harass until they start feeding. He's often banned so I played Vi instead. I think the only downside is that you have to start blue and sometimes you team doesn't protect red. You don't really get to stack dragons so you gank to win.
: She's okay, especially when enemies will constantly throw spells at you for no reason while knowing that you will block it... not to bait out the shield but just because they feel like doing so. But her short AA range will ruin your games from time to time. A big plus is that you don't really need a support to survive the lane.
: She's okay. She doesn't really "carry" games. If you can survive until the first back, she's a good champion to play, nothing more. She literally does nothing early until you get your BF sword + zeal. Of course, you need a decent support to survive til then. The chance of you getting one is slim. Especially when Morgana pools minions or Zyra spams plants or Blitz ult hits minions randomly, messing up your cs. You pick her because she has a long range and can do damage while other adc's just get in range to instantly get deleted.
: Good, until you meet a smurf in top lane who knows how to play against Jax. Most of the time, I ended up performing well, but simply couldn't 1v5 (similar to the Yasuo case). But there are games for which you can hard carry. Really really really hard carry. Very tiring to play for multiple games because you have to deal with enemy harass. Take ignite. Enemy will often make a mistake while trading and too often you get a chance to simply land a kill. You can smash this AP Nasus bs.
Edit:
I'll add this one champion... just because I can.
: People pick this champion in low elo thinking she's freelo. But seriously, she has a short range, and right now, a lot of people are playing Nautilus and Vi. She's still okay but she's definitely not freelo. If you are confident that you can perform well against a team that consists of Nautilus and Vi (basically know how to play Vayne or any other adc for that matter), then play her. Otherwise... why not just play something safer. You have to be able to farm under tower incredibly well, and if you don't play this champion VERY well, you are bound to instantly get deleted by current mages in meta or get CC'd to nothing.
