Custom pinging PSA

Pinging your mana % isn't always the same as pinging what spells you can cast. Some champions have spells that cost a large % of their mana pool during early game. Having 12% mana is very different for an Anivia, Blitzcrank, or Nami than a Karthus, Annie, or Evelynn. Pings aren't a complete substitute for typing something for your team.

  • Example: Pinging low mana on Nami could mean you can heal someone OR use your Q and E. And during early fights it's easy to find yourself unable to do a full rotation with 20% mana because her pool isn't very large and she hasn't completed her Forbidden Idol/Chalice item or Frost Queen's yet.

The new pings are INCREDIBLY handy and I adore the ability to express cooldowns, jungle timers, and health/mana %s, but we shouldn't forget that the quick comm isn't always the clearest route to take and sometimes you need more to ensure victory. The mana ping was the one that I've found myself using most often because of the champions I play being cast dependent. Sometimes it's better to tell my team I can only cast one or two of my spells (and which ones!) than to just ping a percentage and get ready to follow them.
