Ban Hype

With the aftermath of worlds, I thought it would be interesting to bring up a discussion regarding champions and their identities revolving not around their gameplay or lore, but their bans. For example, Kassadin was the king of ban-land until his nerfs caused his pick and win rate to plummet. While right now I (and this is strictly opinion based) believe Kassadin is still strong, his previous identity of Ban-King and being hit by the nerf bat seems to have removed him from the memories of summoners. Compare that with Yasuo, the most recent ban-king. Yasuo is a champion that has received a rough treatment since release. From being complex to play, to overpowered, to nerfed and still overpowered, to nerfed and nerfed. Despite everything Riot attempts to do, Yasuo has maintained this identity of a champion who needs to be banned. Despite this perception, I (again, all strictly opinion) believe that the repeated nerfs and skill required to play Yasuo, has not made him a champion who is worth banning simply for the sake of banning.

With Riot's focus on game 'clarity' and seemingly streamlining the focus, I was wondering how they might deal with these ban identities and what all you summoners thought about Champions with a specific ban identity.

I think a lot of bans come from a mentality that "if a really good player gets this champion he'll solo carry no matter what we do". Basically if decent players can't shut down an excellent player with weak teammates, ban him to make sure your decent team can win.

Hence why carries are often banned over early game snowballers.
