Is Riot ok with the smite top lane meta?

item 3717 is so strong that any tank top laner might as well go smite just for this item. I've only seen Shyvana/Hecarim do this in the LCS, but I think it's because they don't need summoner 4 as much as other champions. I've seen just about everything in solo Q though (mundo, shen, nautilus, etc). Garen being pretty broken with it top, it seems.

I am not QQing about tank meta blah blah, I am simply curious how Riot feels about this and what future updates may be.

Riot is okay with taking smite in the top lane, but they aren't okay with how powerful Cinderhulk is on laners. Expect a nerf to Cinderhulk. The most recent word is nerfing the damage to champions while either buffing the damage or keeping it the same to jungler monsters.

That seems fair, but I'd rather they buff the health than jung dmg as it will lower its value for teamfights if the damage isn't there.

Cinderhulk is not what makes it op, its the 20% dmg reduction for 6seconds + true dmg.

That's part of it, but it's mostly Cinderhulk.

yeah I main Irelia top and the all in becomes extremely difficult once they get the smite and its not like ignite where its a long cool down I can bait out.

I'm telling you. Soon, Support's gonna be taking smite. Then AD's gonna take smite. Then Mid will take Smite. And we'll have a Smite party.

Support tried smite before Cinderhulk came out. It didn't work. I don't think that will EVER be the meta.

I'd actually like to see Stalker blade cinderhulk tanky supports.

They would have to get it after laning phase since they could steal a lot of farm from an ADC.

Stealing would suggest it was theirs to begin with when farm goes to the last hitter.

GroundRuleDouble1 votes

Not the case if you want to have the best chance of winning the game. Farm in the bot lane belongs to the ADC (I'm saying this as a support main). The more farm the support steals from the ADC, the less chance you have of winning the game.

so smite is the new flash

they said they would look a cinder hulk. but they will nerf it's power on laners. (by making the flame passive do more damage to monsters)

However I honestly doubt that Cinder Hulk is the only problem. riot is not going to completely gut Cinderhulk now that tanks are finally competitive in the Jungle. The other Problem is Challenging smite. It's god like in the solo lane. And some how I doubt that Riot will nerf, shyvana and hecarim, tunneling them into these builds.

All said and done, I don't think Riot exactly wants to kill the double smite option. It just that it needs a heavier tradeoff.

i think that if they want to nerf cinderhulk and keep jungle the same, make it do a little less damage to champs and have Cinderhulk not be able to kill opponents minions. like it will leave them with 1 health so you will still have to last hit minions.

i know im ok with it. im running ignite. everyone who comes into my lane with smite better be ready to get his butt whopped.

and stop calling garen a tank pls. also, i dont see what makes garen broken with cinderhulk. if you build it, youre neglecting resistances and wasting half his potential.

LOL I'm sorry Garen senapi

Smite toplane has made Nasus, my least favorite toplaner, even more of a pain. I can force him out of lane but he just goes and kills gromp with smite and now im penalized for actually poking him. Once he gets skirm he can win trades, simply because i cant damage him as much and he gets that true damage. he had no items other than a skirm sabre and dorans ring (idk why he started ring, but w/e). Nasus can no longer be denied farm because he just leaves with smite then comes back with near full hp from his passive. I like to play some tanks toplane i.e. Shen Gnar DrMundo Singed heck even Braum or Thresh but now i cant even be taken seriously without smite/teleport :/

It's not just Cinderhulk that's the problem, it's the stupid challenging smite damage reduction. It was a problem on Kha'zix's ult, and it's a problem on smite, not all champions should have damage reduction.

I've been wondering how a smite ADC would work out.

GroundRuleDouble1 votes

Probably not good. ADCs use their summoner spells too much. Not to mention, the smitems would be too expensive. There are more important things they need to be buying.
