Why do people glorify "breaking the meta"?

I get that off-meta picks can work just fine, and I get that people should be allowed to play something they can have fun with.

But when someone instalocks an off-meta pick in a role someone else already called, you can't complain about them without being called a "meta slave" and a "sheep". Never mind that instalocking a role is terrible sportsmanship, the fact that they broke the meta somehow means they can do no wrong.

If the same player instalocked someone meta, suddenly they're a toxic asshole. So why are off-meta picks an exception to this?

I don't know either, but my guess is that by breaking the meta as an off pick champion, it somehow shows you're more skilled than the average player.

While i understand your point, there is the opposite end of the spectrum as well. if i choose something in an off-meta role, it is incredibly dickish for you to lock in a meta role in my position and force me into a different role that my champ in more conventionally seen in.

I get you. I don't have a problem with someone picking something off-meta, I have a problem when they instalock.

I just don't understand why some people think off-meta picks are exempt from the whole "don't instalock" thing, just because they're off-meta.

I just don't understand why insta-lock ashes are so common in low league TT. They also all seem to act like they're on heroin. Insta lock Ashes seem to come with the aggression that can only mean they're on heroin or just hit puberty.

I'm a little confused by this post, are you complaining about people instalocking in blind pick without calling that role? If that's the case just go play draft.

If people are instalocking champions for your role in draft then that's their fault. And I would say just go that position anyways, if they fed or don't leave you are at least annoying them for trolling.

I think pretty much everyone is annoyed at instalocking in blind.

There are just some people who think meta-breakers are exempt from that, and that's something I don't get.

Off meta picks aren't exactly an exception. Riot has a problem with off meta picks also; singed support for instance.

The thing about off meta picks, is that it keeps players on their toes for something totally unique. High risk, high reward. But they can fail miserably for multiply reasons. I played Blitz jungle recently, and the clear speed was so slow, that I was almost useless the whole game (not as useless as my top or mid-laner however).

Off meta picks also have the ability to become meta picks later on, so using (or abusing) something earlier than others is a great way to climb. Think of Morgana or Annie support.

It seems that people have one of two reactions to offmeta picks; they hate 'em, or love 'em. But blaming these picks as a source of a loss (not that you're doing that), makes one an asshole, because there could be many reasons for a lost game, not because someone picked master yi as a support.
