Determining the difference between AD and AP Champs

I'm trying to figure out how to teach a friend the best way to determine whether a champ is AD or AP to better understand the game. I self teach myself a lot of things and figure things out quickly so I'm having a hard time trying to teach someone who doesn't learn so quickly and easily.

Any suggestions on how to make my life easier would be amazing.
