So why can't Rakan be a melee auto-attacking champion now?
I made a thread talking about this before, but to basically TL:DR that thread or re-explain the points from it (bullet points are the TL:DR, quotations are the more explained details of said bullet points) -
- His auto attack visually doesn't look like a ranged attack, unlike Thresh's for example sake, because all it is his wing attacking someone with any sort of projectile attacking them in some sort of way
It just comes off as a more far reaching melee attack, but Riot decided to make it ranged makes it all the more confusing visually.
In Thresh's case for example, it makes more sense in his case to make him ranged because he's flinging and slashing with his scythe from a 450 auto range, forcefully yet precisely throwing the bladed weapon then yanking it back with his chain ripping in them while doing so.
Rakan on the other hand doesn't have feathers flying off like Xayah, or any sort object being sent launching in some sort of projectile fashion, but just his wing... wing attacking someone from an not great distance in ranged terms
- Explained how his auto attack being ranged doesn't even benefit his passive
Also before brings it up, I get his passive is reliant on his auto-attacks to get it back up quicker, but anyone playing competently knowing that can punish him when he's trying to walk up and feather tickle someone with his measly 300 auto range (heck, which is the lowest ranged attack in the game, just after Urgot's 350 range).
- Explained how it'd just be really nice to be able to use the relic line of items on him, since making him melee would allow him to use it much easier (This was before it got changed and lose it's quest shield as well)
and finally
- How to possibly balance him shifting from a ranged champion to a melee one
Just dropping the range of his auto attacks down by 50 (or even just 25 making him unique in that own right being the farthest reaching basic melee attacker), make him melee then shift some power in the kit possibly after seeing if that effects him positively or negatively.
Not to mention he doesn't have any off-meta ADC/Ranged builds (again, due to his poor auto-attack range), so nothing would be lost there. The only more unique build he has is his full AP all-in burst build, since none of his abilities have AD scaling.
I honestly don't see any reason or benefit remaining that he should still be a ranged champion, and it just doesn't make sense for the sake of clarity for him to be one.
One of the most problematic reasons has been changed with the Relic shield's shield quest line being removed.
Finally, it would give Riot a new means to nerf him / take some power out of his kit since he honestly doesn't even really need or use well.
So why can't he be a melee champion now instead of a measly ranged one?
, and only gets 6%.
or anything.
