The Forgotten Tank

I am in Highschool and am an aspiring Geologist. When I first started to play the game, I didn't wait for a champ to test out or anything. I looked for the coolest splash art (to me). I eventually settled on Malphite. He was my favorite champ for a good while and I spammed him in the only mode I was confident enough to play: bots.

Malphite has an interesting kit. JK.

Malphite's Ult makes his kit. It is so powerful that his laning phase ends up suffering. Thanks to that, he is literally unplayable against anyone but fucking Riven. Malphite is so stale, that the only thing that make his fun and playable is to go into URF and one shot people with no counterplay.

So, I understand why Maokai and Sej are getting reworked. What I can't understand is why they would rework Zac into a knock-up warden and leave Malphite more or less the same. Malphite needs a new identity if Zac is the knockup person now. While Malphite needs a full VGU, he still needs to be touched by the tank update.

Look, I want him to get the full VGU that he needs. However, for now, don't disregard him. With the new Tank Class Update coming out, I just want some closure for Malphite. I want him to at least be mentioned, even if not directly changed. He will most definitely get impacted by the update.

I was thinking that a AOE knockup is not the way to go for him.

I feel like he should be a bit like Taliyah in her control of Earth. I think he should be an Earth Tank Disruptor. I think he should use the ground and walls to his advantage. What follows are my stupid ideas for a new kit. I can't do values to save my life, so this is just ideas for what happens.

Passive- While Standing Next to a wall, he builds up a shield out of combat that equals 10% of his max Health. This gives him more of a play pattern than wait for shield to come up then disregard poke. He builds up this shield that absorbs damage. It takes a bit of damage and then regens out of combat if you are next to a wall. If you just stand there in lane and wait for it to come up, it will come up 25% as fast.

Q- Sort of like Maokai's present Arcane Smash. He Smashes the Ground and sends out a wave of earth that sort of "parts the seas". It is small like Maokai's smash, but it just pushed people away.

W- More of a Situational Armor Ability. If his shield is at least 50% full, he can temporarily make it 100% on himself. After a few seconds, it explodes, dealing damage based on his Armor. He can also do this on an ally, but it has half the health and damage. He needs to be coerced to stack armor, but needs to be able to stack MR too.

E- Sends out a bar from a nearby wall to block the path. This is impassible terrain. This kind of works like Anivia wall, but it lasts longer, but can only be made out of nearby walls. It is about long enough to wall off a path or a pit, but has a long cooldown and lasts for a short time until leveled up.

Ult- Burrows into the ground and dashes toward someone on the enemy team. After waiting a second, you have a few seconds to click another person in a certain range that gets smaller for each enemy hit. Each person is snared and has their resistances reduced. This deals a bit of Magic Damage. It would be like a horrible amalgam of a Maokai Twisted Advance and a Varus Ult. This probably stupid, but it seems neat at the time I'm writing this. With the range reduction and delay, it takes thought before just snaring the first person you see. His goal is to reach the backline and disrupt their damage output.

All in All, this is a jumble of thoughts thread that will probably be TL:DR if it is even clicked on. If you wasted your time all the way to this point, tell me what you think. We can discuss stuff. I just don't want my first "main" to fall by the wayside until his VGU which is a long way off.

I disagree.

Malphite is strong against any melee ad top laner, save perhaps Fiora and Darius. Malphite goes very even with similar nature tanks in the top lane as well, like Sion, Maokai, etc. His ult is not the strongest part of his kit. He is an anti-ad hyper tank with immense cc, and basically is capable of mowing down any ad top. Tryn is laughable after you get Wardens and Tabi. Same with Yas. The key to playing Malph well is to know his weaknesses early before you have armor, and play around them. Much like any real tank. Most tanks can take little damage before items, and thats why most fighters shit on them until they do. Counterplay is the nature of the game. You just gotta learn it.
