Ivern Ultimate

Just one quick question: why does Ivern not have a range indicator for his ultimate? As a Ivern wannabe, I had to give up multiple chances to pull off a good play just because I didn't realize that Ivern's ult was targeted and without a range indicator. Is there a clear reason for this?
