How will the new level-up/blue essence system affect hextech crate contents?

I've read that with IP turning into Blue Essence, the value of shards will be lessened, and that also hextech crates would be changed.

Could some please clarify what that means? I'm wondering if it would be better to use key/crate now, or save it for after the update.

Thanks kindly in advance.

IP will be convcerted to blue essence, and pre-existing blue essence will be multiplied by 6.5.

Champion shards will disenchant into less blue essence then they currently do, so the effective value of champion shards will go down. When you level up in the new system you get capsules that are likely to contain champ shards tho, so there will be more of them in the new system.

Key/crate loot itself is unchanged, so when you happen to get champion shards (instead of skin shards), it's worth slightly less (since they disenchant to less), but the loot you probably care about (i.e. skins) is uneffected.

tl;dr: It's probably best to open your chests now and disenchant/reroll any champion shards you don't want before the update.

Great, thanks! I was thinking that myself (open and disenchant for pre-patch value), but was wondering if they were going to change the drop rates in chests in any way. Cheers.

They actually will make so that there is a bigger chance you get a skin from a normal chest and they will make sure that you never run on in a big period where you don't get a gemsonte or a skin.

I had exactly the same question..... and please someone answer! ....

I was thinking that, if champ shards are going to be that common, then skin rates on chests will rise, but im not sure. Maybe pre-update chests will have the same rates as usual or something.

So, at the end is it better to open chests before or after update?
