How?

I guess because of the masteries change, perhaps the meta...? I actually post this to understand how he became a good pick recently. He strangely is out of any website tierlist, being tier 2-3.

He wasn't that bad to begin with and even very small positive changes can change winrates significantly. Sejuani is up to 53% too without any direct changes either.

He's amazing in the jungle. I've easily gone over 5.5k hp in a single game.

Titanic Hydra begins to hit like crazy, and you can charge almost constantly.

That shield change never actually broke him...

Tanky junglers with tons of CC usually boast a higher winrate than the aspects of their kit would lead you to believe. To put it simply, they're better team players than those in the carry role, thus teams with them win more games. It should be of no surprise, with Sion's two high level hard CC abilities and slow, that he fits into this category.

That's not to say he doesn't have problems. I find him hard to play due to his base health alone. 5000 late game health is fine, I love it, but gosh, being so squishy so early is terrifying in the jungle.

That can happen when your pick rate is a whopping 1%
