Juggernauts and fighters, stop crying!

12/5 PBE Update

Seems Like Riot acknowledged the supremacy of tanky toplaners and the uselessness of fighters/juggernauts top, and the next patch started out really well with a lot of buffs on the pbe, with AD scaling increase on some fighters, buffs on Black Cleaver's arm pen to 5% per stack, buffing Tiamat and Titanic's AD by 5, and buffing LW'arm pen (just a nerf to tanks, not buff for melees)

But what's more important, a total rework for Grasp:

Grasp of the Undying (R1)

Changed from [Deal bonus magic damage equal to 4% of your max health] to [Deal bonus adaptive damage equal to 3% of your max health] Changed from [permanently increased your health by 5] to [grant you bonus adaptive Attack Damage or Ability Power based on your max health until exiting combat. This effect can stack.] [Adaptive note added: Adaptive AD or AP is equal to 1% or 1.6% of your max health, respectively.] Ranged champions no longer gain 2 permanent health.

I think this wi be great, since the dmg proc being adaptive andand not magic can sinergize with the armor shred of BC and in the kit of some fighters (hello Darius) and the 1% AD based on max health makes it up a bit for the loss of fervor, specifically for champs who can't go for PTA.

Oh, and they also decreased the shield buff from supp items.

So, what do you think about this?

I will miss the health stacking from Grasp, but it can't be helped it seems. And the decreased damage for ranged still leaves Urgot with awkward choices for his keystones.

Wow. They even threw in a new Jax skin as a token of apology for his appalling 50.5 win rate this patch. Hashinshin will be happy maybe? :)

I'm not sure about this. With certain builds for Nasus and Yorick, I want the extra HP as I'm not building pure tank. Extra bit of damage isn't needed.

I mean you have 3000HP and get 1% extra damage? so 30AD? At the start of the game if you have 700hp, that's 7AD. A press the Attack Irelia will just do 30 or more extra damage early and then I take 12% more damage for just autoing 3 times but during the fight, I'm backing off so I don't take that extra damage, not trading long enough for this new Grasp to give me 7-10 extra AD.

I'm not sure 1% or even 1.6% extra AD or AP is worth it.

Might help Illaoi and Darius though.

Kind of sad that Grasp is the keystone they decide to change. There's a lot of redundancy in other trees between PtA and Tempo, and between Aery and Comet, so I'd really have preferred to see one of those keystones changed, especially since a lot of the top lane fighters who are ill-served by current keystones would much rather be in an offensive tree than in Resolve.

As for the rest of the changes, its a great start. Certain champions who could use a hit are notably missing (Pantheon Heimerdinger ) but other than that most of the champions who needed direct changes seem to be getting them.

I'd love to see other, more ambitious changes to the item system but I figure that this mini patch wouldn't be the time for such things anyway.

Altho it sounds really good, as a bruiser if your taking grasp your still forced to take the resolve tree which lets you do 0 dmg early game, they should just add another keystone thats good for bruisers. Its still a start tho.

Top lane is still the worst lane to play simply because it’s not bot lane and not as close to hot lane as mid lane is. We’ll need buffs to how the game actually works for top lane to be relevant again.

Possibly revert the tp nerf or a buff to split pushing

Titanic Hydra's major problem is that it's too expensive and takes up three slots to finish. This creates a situation where you either prioritize it (and risk losing lane and the game) or you build it last (aka never). I mainly play aa based bruisers (particularly a fair bit of Trundle) and as much as I would like to build the item, it just costs too much and offers too little when my lane opponent is most likely either a ranged champ, an AD caster like Panth/Jayce (Serrated Dirk costs 100g less than Tiamat), or a tank like Maokai/Ornn.

Increasing the AD only helps champs like Fiora and Camille, but does nothing for the tanky bruisers that don't build Cleaver like Trundle/Voli/Mundo. Lately, I've just been going Sunfire into Spirit Visage, which is a much safer start. I almost never actually end up building anything that upgrades from Jaurim's fist. The best way to make this item decent would be to change the recipe to Tiamat + Giant's Belt, none of this three slots nonsense. I'm playing a melee bruiser, not a ranged carry.

The new Grasp looks interesting though and I look forward to messing around with it.
