Why the fuck are smurfs allowed?

Grymmstrike··16 votes·2,191 views

Seriously, a guy averaging over 12 kills a game and doing 40% better than average on a champion should not be a "Bronze IV" and playing against actual bronze players. When the fuck is Riot going to take their "ranked" system seriously? All it is right now is a fucking playground for high elo smurfs. Guy even admits he is a "Diamond 2 main". And he is playing fucking Bronze.

This right here is why I don't do ranked.

ChaddyFantome3 votes

The reason i dont do ranked is DQ.

SaltyKracka5 votes

They basically can't stop it, so they do their best to mitigate it by matching smurfs with higher ELO players.

He's a "diamond 2 main"? Damn, hope diamond 2 is never banned, otherwise, he is fcked.

Chamuel852 votes

Do you have an idea of how to detect smurfs? He could be lying by the way. I'm looking for a FOOL PROOF way to detect smurfs so you can ban them without false positives. Otherwise, you may end up banning people rising through the ranks with their main account but are experienced with other mobas. Beyond that, there is nothing really that Riot can do, and you're just mad and trying to cry about it.

My advice is watch how this greatly superior player to you plays and try to learn from it instead of complaining about how you had someone far far far better than you in a match.

you lose 1 game to a smurf and you get all butthurt, almost as if smurfing is why ur stuck in bronze?

Grymmstrike4 votes

No, the reason I am stuck in bronze is because I am not good enough to climb out of it. It breaks down into three major categories:

1.) Personal (60%) - I simply am not skilled enough at this game. I have poor map awareness (Surprising since situational awareness is something I pride myself at in World of Tanks, as well as in real life), I have poor mechanical skills, I forget to do a lot of things, and I am overly aggressive.

2.) Team (30%) - When a laner has 5 deaths in as many minutes and a champion gets fed, it's hard to win. When you have 1-2 afkers or disconnects every other game (It was every game for a while, now I've gone a couple games without one), it is hard to win. When you have your champion banned away because a teammate doesn't want you playing it, it is hard to win. When everyone on your team is toxic toward each other, it is hard to win.

3.) Enemy Team (10%) - When you are facing duo and trio groups that have good communication already, it is hard to win. When you face high elo players on smurf accounts, it is hard to win.

As you can see, personal skill is by far the biggest reason I am in bronze. Anyone who is good as a player will move past bronze if they want to. The other two categories determine how good they have to be and how hard they have to carry to get there. I would still be bronze even if I didn't face premades or smurfs. I would still be bronze if my teams were all evenly matched. I'm not a good player. I DO, HOWEVER, play to have fun and playing against people that are VASTLY superior is not fun. When you can't do anything in a game because the enemy jungler is invading like crazy, ganking all lanes, etc, and has a 2 level lead and like 4k gold lead at 10 minutes, it's not fun. I'm in bronze because I am bad. I should be allowed to play with other players that are bad so we can be bad together and have fun.

i actually found this to be a great post.

while i am not certain i agree with the exact percentages, part of the "personal" thing is EXACTLY what is holding me back.

unlike you the only thing i really forget to do is use certain item actives, i CAN be over aggressive when playing supportLux because I'm just too damn tempted to proc her passive. but for the most part I'm pretty passive if the situation requires me to be. since my main Nidalee has been moved to the jungle.. i have pretty good map awareness, or at least mini-map awareness. i don't usually pan my screen out of my jungle unless i am about to gank or a see a ping or an my teammates hugging their tower. (on the mini-map)

in fact if you consider only the above, i am MUCH better than almost everyone in my elo and even most people above my my elo.

and if it was just these things.. i would be plat or diamond, or at the VERY least.. high gold.

but alas.. what has me stuck in silver.. is my abysmal mechanical skills, i have never learned how to type so i hit the wrong key a lot more times than i would like. i also have issues miss-clicking things, and when i say i have trouble with item passives, i mean if i have more than a item 2049 and a item 3157 iI' probably goign to use the wrong item active even if i do remember i have it

i actually stopped buildingitem 3092 and swapped to item 2302 on lux for two reason.. 1 it made me even more aggressive because i wanted to proc the passive for gold and because although i really do LOVE the passive item 3092 has having to control that, plus item 2049 plus my usualitem 3157 so i don't get insta-gibbed if I'm collapsed on

while i always have my item 2049 on "3"

on every other champ i play i always have item 3157 on "1"

and i have potions on slot 2 which because i normally getitem 2031 in the jungle i usually keep until i run out of item slots

so i either have to moveitem 3157 to 2 or item 3092 to 2.

and i frequently mix them up and press the wrong one, if i even remember to useitem 3157 at all... which at least 50% of the time.. i don't...

so while i know the game better than pretty much every teammate i get, my lack of mechanical skill is what is holding me in silver. and its something that hasn't really ever improved and i really don't know how to improve it.

and interestingly enough.. its what GOT me playing league in the first place.

i came from starcraft 2, and i just couldn't control everything i needed to at once.

i would always do great until mid game at which point i could no longer properly micro all my units or macro everything i needed to, let alone to both.

so i ended up playing a custom game called "hero attack" which was my first MOBA, and which was IMO better than league. but the creator abandoned the game, and when a blizzard patch ended up breaking something in the game and there was no one to fix it , the game died... but i fell in love with that type of game (MOBA's) and started playing league. which my sister had been trying to get me to play for a year.

i don't know of any way to improve my mechanical skills. so i figure I'm pretty much stuck in silver. and while i got to silver by improving my other areas.. there is only so far i can climb without somehow getting better mechanical skills.

but your post was pretty much dead on with explaining the "personal" side

Grymmstrike1 votes

Yeah, items might as well not even have actives on them for me. I have used an item active once, by mistake. I forget they are there. Same with my potions. And my trinket. If I buy a pink ward, I use it because I usually have a very specific place I am going to place it. But the trinket ward I buy and then use 2-3 times a game it seems.

As far as mechanical skills, I really don't know how to get better either, other than stop playing buzzed off my ass. And maybe practice, I don't know. I have fat fingers and I don't actually touch-type very well. I have to crack my knuckles every 5 minutes or so with the arthritis.

or you could just... stop playing highly mechanically intensive champions ;) example of not mechanically intensive supports: Janna - just shield your carry (in lane the adc, in mid and late game whoever can carry you in your team, be it top, mid or jungle or adc) when the enemy wants to go for trades, and maybe try to Q them. press R if someone tries to assassinate them (ie: Zed runs towards your carry, wait until Zed goes ult. Press R, gg you fucked Zed).

Alistar - just do your engage combo when the enemy adc tries to attack your adc in lane..... simple as fuck. And try to flash engage on the enemy adc in mid to late game when you guys are grouped in equal numbers. Its pretty much flash, pulverize and hedbutt towards your team. Also press R so you don't die if someone attacks you during your fancy combo.

Karma - try to poke enemy down in lane R+E = team wide shield (i think) R+W = snare that heals you (good when you bait stuff) R+Q = stronger poke, good to use when enemy is under tower and they try to cs. When you see a low hp minion of yours, try to aim for the enemy carry with RQ. Easy.

Or less mechanically difficult junglers: Evelynn - search some youtube videos about jungle camp kiting and wreak havok afterwards counter jungle the enemy jungler if none of the enemy lanes are pushing

Amumu - hit q, press R when a lot of enemies nearby, win fight Graves - easy clear, high damage, just do jungler stuff Sejuani - tanky jungler, in case you like tanks, hit R properly and you win. Preferably don't combo Q with R, so you still have your mobility skill.

Nida is one of the highest mechanically intensive champions in the game. And Lux is ENTIRELY skill shot reliant.

The only way you get better mechanically is by spamming a champion for a while (lets say 10 games in a row), then take a break, play something else for like 5 games, then spam again your champion for 10 games in a row. Repeat this like 3 times and you'll get good at them. You want the "break" period there to help you memories that hero's mechanics unconsciously. Before it becomes easy to spam in over and over again.

you dont seem to get it.. its not the HERO mechanics i cant do... i can do those fine... its my own mechanics

for example... i cant ADC to save my life... i have the mechanics for all the champs i play down near perfect. its the overall mechanics.. accuracy of my clicking, response time, being able to kite. the ability to watch a all aspects teamfight, see what ability have been used. what ultis are gone.

just yesterday i totally screwed over my team becuase i had seem Amumu use his ulti on my and kill me 1v1 right before the last fight

right when we both respawned.. another fight broke out in mid lane and when we both got there i ASSUMED mumu's ulti was down. and i Blitzcrank pulled him into my entire team to kill him.... well he ulti wasn't down.. becuase i was too stupid to realize that he had 45% cdr that he had rank 16 and that with the 60 second respawn timers by the time re re-enaged.. his ulti was back up.

my stupidity with that pull let the enemy team engage on us and we got aced and it cost us the game.

becuase i knew that NORMALLY mumu has a long ulti cooldown, and if the respawn timers weren't already over a min and he actually DIDN'T have ulti . that pull might have won us the game.

Sadly, i actually get it. Look the thing is, since you are playing mechanical hard champions at your level, you and your brain are focused one doing one of the following things: Perform good mechanically. Take good decision.

Some players are able to learn the game by playing high mechanical champions. While others need to play easy champions in order to learn and understand the game.

I'm in the second category, so are you. The difference is that I've figured i will climb with easy champions and decision making. To give you an analogy. Some people can work out, get abs and still eat cake. While others need to work out, get abs, but must eat healthy to keep their abs. If they eat cake, they lose em.

For some of us good decisions and high mechanics is just to much at the same time. So we learn one of the 2 unconsciously. Lol is a lot about good and bad decisions, like your bliz example. So, even with bad mechanics, u can get plat with good decisions and easy champions

sure if i WANTED to play easy champs to carry into higher elos i probably could.

but i play the champs i do because i find them the most FUN.

there is no fun playing champ that can faceroll with no skill like MasterYi orVolibear

its not FUN if i can dive in like and idiot and still instantly get back to safety with no repercussions likeLeblanc andZed

i don't LIKE playing braindead "easy" or OP "low risk high reward" champions. because i don't feel any reward for doing good on them.

Serika Zero1 votes

so, if you play champions that overall give you a lower success rate that's not the fault of smurfs, dynamicq, elo hell, team mates, mechanics and so on

Generally people play ranked to "get better" in most cases, not that it matters that much anymore. Ofc fun is important but, your lack is not "mechanics" but game knowledge. And often you will "overlook" that by playing hard champions.

Side note. Zed and LeBlank are ones of the highest mechanic intensive champions. Yes, their escape is very easy. Which means you get an overall higher degree of safety with them, but being actually decent at them is very very difficult.

how is that any different than Nidalee who i main..

who is one of the hgihest mechaniclly intenisve champs in the game.. and isn't "point and click" likeZed and Leblanc are

it donest take any skill to land a skillshot that goes THROUGH minions like zed's Q does.

it donest take any skill to press R then E then then throw two shurikens and then press r again to get out safely

while LB chain might take some skill her teleport ability that pops in an out is just simpley" point and click.

does keeping trak of your shaows take skill? sure.. but a champ is "skilled" becuase your required to do that to be good at him is pretty bull when EVERY OPPONENT who fight him ALSO has to keep track of his shadows. and they don't get "little arrows" to help show them

yes leblac's chains are hard to land. but instanly popping in and 1 hitting someone and poping instantly back to safety isn't hard...

and its not like Leblanc NEEDS to land her chains to engage

nidalee?

you need to land a slow moving spear on them while trying to pass it through minion waves or wait for them to walk out in the open or try to get an angle on them. THEN you need to decided.. is it safe to pounce in? becuase you don't have an instant 2000 meter escape.

im tired of hearing crap like Zed takes skill Leblanc take skill.

you know what? LeeSin takes skill becuase he needs to LAND A SKILLSHOT

Thresh takes skill becuase he NEEDS TO LAND A SKILLSHOT

and blitzBlitzcrank also take skill becuase guess what.. HE NEEDS TO LAND A SKILLSHOT. (although frankly i think its WAY to wide...)

even Ahri takes more skill than your "hard" champs becuase while she CAN do some damage.. a good 1v1 almost always relied on landing your charm.

Diana take skill, but even she gets a free pass on her ulti becuase she CAN cast it even without landing her Q if she really needs to.. it just goes on cooldown if she does

sure there is a SMALL amount skill involved inZed and Leblanc

and they may be mechanically intensive... but they don't take SKILL

Serika Zero1 votes

Zed and LeBlank are considered mechanically intensive and that they require a lot of skill because they present you with many options such as: go in with your shadow/dash and try to all in, go out with your shadow/dash and escape, use your shadow just just harass while escaping, then switching places and then r and then run away and then r again. Basically, the amount of things you can do with both leblank and zed are very high. And most of them are often not the right choice. That as well as executing said combos under presure requires skills. And makes these 2 champions in particular very mechanically intensive as well as very hard due the amount of decision making they require. And this is also the reason why Lee is considered hard. He has mobility and a lot of options, but which option is the best one in each situation is vastly different. That together with the mechanics required to use your mobility in your advantage makes him difficult.

On the other hand. We have Blitzcrank. All he has to do is land 1 Q on the priority target and that's it. And Fizz, even tho he has a lot of mobility like Zed and LeBlank. Just because his E has like 5 or 6 second cooldown at max cdr makes him "easy". Also the fact that he can really just WEQ zhonias and E away.

Thresh is also considered a very difficult support. Actually, bard is often compared to thresh. They are probably the nr 1 and 2 in terms of support difficulty. Why? because again, they offer many options, out of which many are wrong. And using your Flay (or Cosmic Binding), the difference between bad Thresh players, average ones and good ones is HUGE.

Nidalee is highly mechanical intensive champion because she has a lot of combos she has to do in quick succession, together with many auto attack resets (I think she used to have like 3, maybe only 2 now). Mechanics is not all about landing your skill shots. Sure, aiming that is part of them, but it doesn't end there sadly.

Ahri is considered overall easy or medium. She has decent laning phase, 3 dashes and a speed buff on her Q. Even if she doesn't land chams, she can do tons of damage with Q in team fights. Add a Rylays to that and she becomes amazing. For very little things done.

Diana is also easy. RWQ kills a squishy without mr in mid to late game. QRWR kills a squishy without peal in mid to late game. I'm a Diana main, used to be Ahri main last season. They are easy champions.

Your Nidalee is difficult to play. If you don't believe me, watch any high elo or lcs player talk about her, zed or leblank. They are all considered highly difficult champions.

And the problem with high difficulty champions is that they simply make you unable to see the game as you are overly focused on performing with them. Even if they are more fun for you than other picks. So, as long as you ain't bothered about elo and rankings. Playing for just fun is great. If you are bothered by it, your champion pool is holding you back from getting better

Yup, exactly that. Sone215 was the one who was raging about the loss. He said they were a 4-man premade (Not sure if that was true, but that is what he said) and they had literally broken our base to bits. We were like 30 seconds from losing just to supers...And then they surrendered. That is the only win so far that I wish we hadn't won. If we win a game I want it to happen because we were the better team, not because the other team gifts it to us so they can keep their Bronze V ranking or whatever.

I'm Bronze. I know I am Bronze. I even have a YouTube series called "Sub-Bronze" because that is what I am. I just want to have fun playing other people at my level. Not some guy who literally averages twice the kills per lolskill.net that other people do. When his stats say he is head and shoulders above everyone in his level (Bronze IV is what the account is ranked at) and he says he is a smurf, it's probably a damn smurf. But then again I guess Occam's Razor is too high a concept for you to understand.

Chamuel851 votes

If you think this is occam's razor, then you're engaging in false dilemma and are too dumb to realize it.

Grymmstrike1 votes

Options:

1.) Assume the guy is correct based on the evidence that he is much better than the other bronzies.

2.) Assume the guy is lying and assume he just got lucky. Also assume he just gets lucky every game he plays.

Of the two options, one has more assumptions than the other. So you tell me how I am wrong?

In layman's terms, the simplest solution is usually the correct one, so the simplest thing is to believe the guy created a second account to play low tier games because he said he did. The more complex thing is to believe that he is unnaturally lucky and just randomly gets higher stats than the average person of his skill level and believe that he is also a liar since he has made the claim that he is a smurf.

Now granted, we will never know if he is truly a Diamond 2 smurf or a Gold 1 smurf, or anything else. But the simplest explanation is that he is indeed a smurf based on his statements, his previous stats, and his play within the game in question.

Chamuel851 votes

Oh look, a false dilemma again. You didn't even bother to google it. Man, how was the bird's eye view about Occam's Razor this spring in 9th grade? I assume it was invigorating and your eyes lit up while thinking "Man, this'll be GREAT!" without realizing the exact subtleties of it. I assume logical fallacies (including false dilemma) are covered sometime in a few years.

I know the difference between Occam's Razor and a False Dichotomy (aka a false dilemma) is pretty subtle. Hopefully, classes will cover it soon.

Grymmstrike3 votes

Well I would love for you to explain what other options there are that haven't been considered...But you are too busy pretending to know what you are talking about to actually do that, aren't you. Believe me, child, I've been on this earth a hell of a lot longer than you have and dealt with people a hell of a lot smarter than you. Let's take the evidence:

1.) Guy says he is a smurf 2.) Guy has good stats 3.) Guy plays well in the only game with first hand knowledge

Now, unless you have some additional insight, I can only assume two options:

1.) Guy is a smurf 2.) Guy is not a smurf

Since we have two options, it is not a false dilemma. Thus, Occam's Razor applies in that the simplest explanation making the least amount of assumptions is usually correct. Hence the conclusion that:

1.) The guy is a smurf

So, what other information do you have that would lead to a third option? Either he is a smurf or he isn't. Evidence points to him being one.

Just make it so that people can't have multiple accounts continuously played on a single IP

Obviously this would cause problems as there are many households with more then 1 player, so instead of every IP having only 1 account have it so that you can sign up for another account as long as there is another player.

people have the same ip in................... internet cafes apparently that's a big deal for assuming games popularity in korea people have the same ip in................... university dorms, if they use university net for gaming people have the same ip in.................... the same house, like if there's 2 brothers/sisters/roommates playing lol on the same or even different machine

1 IP doesn't equal 1 single person. I'm sorry to tell you, but that was way be in 2000's when it kind was like that.

Becasue there is liteally nothign Riot can do to stop smurfs from happening with their game model

Hey, boosters are ruining both low elo and high elo, then high elo players want to chill from this and pick a smurf and then it ruins low elo even more. Unlucky.

Actually, when i got placed in bronze3 (because of the trollgames i did preseason dropped my MMR so hard), i may have met 2 smurf in the enemy in that barely ~20 games till i got out from Bronze. I stomped every single botlane as a beginner adc, but higher game knowledge. So it's either the matchmatching which is failing to get paired vs other smurfs or these smurfs are not that common as people think. Since no matter how bad we try to do not climb, we do. i would say from my opinion and experience: the most smurf spotted around S4-G5, as they boost people for that G5 and shiny seasonend-rewards.

Riot said they have nothing wrong with smurfing. Eventually in a players career, they get to a wall in high elo. So they make a new account and stomp around on bronze kiddies. I made an account just for doing this too, when I don't want to play ranked on this account.

Vi "if you hit a wall, hit it hard" - and break through it

why come make it harder for people u know you can beat. Do you take great pride in ruining bronze promos of bronze that are really trying to make it out?

Hyperiön1 votes

Because it allows me to work on my mechanics, and shot calling, and 1v1 potential a lot better than it can higher up the ladder. It is kind of playing against bots in a sense. Watching them build the wrong things, not prioritizing properly, etc... And I help my team with knowledge and help them through their mistakes. So I am doing both at the same time.

VvVVvV2 votes

But what good is 1v1 potential if you are 1v1ing someone know know u can beat, you are not gaining any skill from that.

Its just like in sports when you see a strong team lose to the team that hasnt won a game yet. When you play against less skilled or weaker teams you tend to play down to their level. And in this game even if you do good kda wise, the other stuff you are trying to improve you are really not improving at all because most likely you are not even needing to use the skills you are trying to improve.

Uhhhh, if you think a high elo player 1v1ing a bronzie is helping you learn how to play you are delusional. I used to play World of Tanks, and as a high WNX player I could stomp the low WNX players all the time. Fighting them really didn't help me learn anything. Only time I learned and got better was scrims, CW, and tourneys.

Hyperiön1 votes

Its like playing against intermediate bots. I can work on my CS, work on when to trade, when not to trade etc, there is a whole bunch of stuff you can learn from it.

he shouldn't be in bronze unless he is throwing games, which is a bannable offense it's also possible he just snowballed and is lying to sound cool

Guy Fox Teemo1 votes

There are no smurfs in Bronze , the only smurfs there are; are people who intentionally throw to lose lp.

Because 99.99% of the time a smurf (A decent Gold 1 or higher) gets placed in high silver just for provisionals.

whats a smurf, cause something tells me your not talking about tiny shirtless blue men

Dominick Destine1 votes

Dynamic Queue ironically made the smurf problem infinitely worse.

Why the fuck are players allowed to group up into toxic gangs with DQ and ruin games as a group of players?

Same reason probably.
