The Immobile Mages
With talk of the upcoming Immobile Mage Update soon (tm), I thought I'd leave my thoughts on who exactly should be classified as an Immobile Mage, and what their abilities should be centered around.
These are all my opinions, but feel free to share yours down below in the comments!
The Immobile mages:
- Anivia - Visual update needed badly, but her kit isn't in a bad spot.
- Annie - Visual update would be nice, some things to make her less frustrating to play against could be added.
- Brand - Starting to look a little dated, all his skins are more or less the same (with the exception of Cryocore and Spirit Skins), kit is acceptable, but could be better
- Heimerdinger - Visuals are solid, kit is up to date. All his skins feel unique.
- Karthus - Visuals are fantastic (Voice acting is likely the best in the game, imo), abilities could use some touching up.
- Morgana - Visuals are really... sad. Her abilities are alright, but her model and movement are a joke. Her abilities are really simple, but that's alright for her, she's one of the starter champions.
- Swain - Not as bad visually as others, but he's starting to show his age. His kit could stand to be updated.
- Syndra - Visually fine, diverse skins. His abilities could use better alignment with his theme.
- Veigar - Visuals are dated, though some skins liven him up. His abilities are in a decent spot.
- Vel'Koz - Visuals and Abilities are solid.
- Vladimir - Help. Visually a mess, his abilities are... strange in this day and age of the game.
- Xerath - Visuals are kinda clunky, but his abilities are alright.
- Zyra - Good visuals and skin diversity, her abilities could use updating to better match her theme.
Because I can't be sure which ones are on the list and which aren't, I'm going to go through them all. If changes were to be made, here's what I'd like to see happen, in general
- Anivia - Overall fine, unique pattern and play-style, I have no changes in mind.
- Annie - She needs more counterplay than "don't get within X range of her, it's X+Flash too if she has it up, Have Fun!". I never feel like Annie wins because she's good at the champion, adding a little more of a skill-cap, while retaining the skill floor of the champion to keep it as a beginner mage, would be appropriate.
- Brand - I wouldn't mind an entirely new kit for him, keeping his passive and his ultimate. He should be focused on burning everything down. Burning your minions, burning your champions, burning your towers, burning you, and burning your cow to ash.
- Heimerdinger - Very well defined champion, I have no issues with him, as he does his job in a unique way.
- Karthus - I've done suggestions on this already and going through it again is going to take an eternity.
- Morgana - Could stand to use some updating. Her kit, despite how powerful it is, is very boring to play both as, and against.
- Swain - As much as I love him, he doesn't come across as "The Master Tactician" to me. I'd be alright with a total rework of his abilities, as long as he retains his ultimate. Given the tools, I'd love to be, as Swain puts it "Five steps ahead of you."
- Syndra - While annoying to play against, she is unique in a sense. I don't really like playing the champion, and I hate playing against them, I'll not comment further, as I'm not in the best of positions to do so.
- Veigar - Well defined personality and role. His ultimate could use a look, but everything else is fairly solid to the character, and offers a unique space within this group.
- Vel'Koz - Very well designed champion, and executed to the same degree, he is the poster child of a balanced champion, I wouldn't touch him unless I had a revolutionary idea, and because I don't, I'm not.
- Vladimir - S.O.S.
- Xerath - His rework awhile back did a good job of making him more fun to play both as, and against. I really enjoyed coming up with names for his abilities when they asked for our ideas back in the day. His ult really feels awful though. He doesn't feel "ascended" or at the peak of his power, those projectiles are really disappointing ("Pew, Pew, Pew"), both as they fire, and as they land. If they had auditory and visual impact, I'd like the ability more.
- Zyra - Needs some attention, espically with her passive ("revive" passives are notorious to get right feeling for both sides), but otherwise she's alright. I'd be happier if her seeds were more Illaoi-esq, spawning near walls periodically, instead of manually placed, though that may ruin the champion for some people, but it does open up another ability for the champion.
That's all I've got, what do you think about the Immobile Mages? What would you like to see done with them?
(I did consider adding Viktor and Cassiopeia to this list, however both have minor speed boosts built into their kits, so they're not truly "immobile", but just a step above it. Viktor, in my opinion, is fine, while Cassiopeia could use some work independent of this project Riot's doing.)
Is also an immobile mage, but he's been in a good spot ever since his initial rework (And a few months before it too if you ask me) so he'll probably be exempt.
kit is in dire need of tweaks, like how easy to kill his turrets become in the lategame.
also is in need of a rework
Fiddlesticks he is an immobile mage too
