[Controversial]: What DotA has that League doesn't
DISCLAIMER THIS IS NOT A TARGETTED POST TO RIOT IT IS AN INFORMATIVE POST ON WHAT I BELIEVE THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN DOTA AND LEAGUE IS NONE OF THIS IS TO BE TAKEN PERSONALLY NOR TOO SERIOUSLY
I'll get straight into it.
For as long as MOBA was considered a genre, the 2 dominant forces in the industry are DotA and League, DotA being the first one to pioneer all MOBAs. Both are extremely competitive, huge in esports, and great games in general. Despite this, there are differences that can't be said about the 2 without comparing them, but because this is a League forum, I'll focus on League, and specifically what it can learn from DotA.
Acessibility
DotA from the start has all it's heroes unlocked, giving beginners favor and there's no need for too much grinding. The client is simple, sleek, and what seperates it from League is it's versatility. Much like Smite, you can watch videos, keep track of news, and even test out heroes while in queue or anywhere, right there in the client. League has a great client nonetheless, but it could use some work on maybe making queue times (which are infamously long nowadays) less frustrating.
Community
Most of you saw this one coming. DotA community is great. Welcoming and normally friendly, the communication you have within game only makes it easier for people to interact. Pings are and issue to address, as DotA has amazing pings. Sounds silly, but they have pings that could be used in League, and I'm sure objectives, MIA and compliments can be given easier. Although this is more a gameplay issue, DotA is such a difficult game to master, no one really gets mad over mistakes, small or big. Of course, there are nasty people, but overall it's more mature and well rounded.
Company to Consumer
All over these boards Riot employees attempt ("") to answer as much as they can. However, they ignore some of the biggest things like refunds or gameplay. DotA doesn't. A lot of DotA in game influence comes from players, and so much is done because Valve and it's community can talk easier. Staff in DotA aren't afraid to talk, whether it might piss people off or not. It's more of a connection rather than a one sided window like it is for League.
A Smart System
AFKs and connection problems, leading to queues have always been a pet peeve of the player base for League. But, League I'll admit is harsh, and no matter how you say it, if you can't get into a game without waiting 20 minutes you will be frustrated. I've seen people saying "it's your fault" to "the leavebuster system sucks". DotA handles this quite well. Once disconnectivity issues are detected, you have 2 options. Leave without punishment, or play the game for fun. Someone AFKs? You can leave and the game won't be counted. How great is that? You will get a queue for AFK-ing, but at least there are alternatives for those in ranked and people who want to play competitively.
Turrets
Turrets do their job well in DotA, they defend you. Someone diving you? They're not likely to survive, even if they manage to kill you. Simple concept, but League towers are kinda stupid.
Downvote the post if you want. Just wanted to put somethings out there. You're entitled to what you think, and that's fine.
Have a good day guys.
