Key Drops? What Are Those?

Been playing league for quite a while and i have 5 chests waiting for me to open but i rarely have seen any key fragment drops in about a week or so. I understand that they drop randomly but its been a while since ive gotten a key fragment. I know the drop rates are probably low but how are u goin to have chest but not have keys to open them. It makes me feel bad because i was hyped about the whole hextech feature but i can't even enjoy it because i cant even open up a chest. Ps im broke as hell and cant afford rp....

It felt like the first 8 key fragments were easy to get. Got them on day 1 or 2. Then I got 4 more over the next week or so. And then I've never seen any more keys since. It seems like you can only get 12. I'm starting to wonder when I'll ever be able to get any more.

6 Chests, 11 Key Fragments here... I'm not sure if fragments need to drop more, because I know it'll take me a while to get more chests (already played most of my best champs). So the keys will catch up eventually.

Do you win your games? Do you queue with other people? Did you already get the slew of key fragments for your first few wins?

Are you trying to say that there is a finite amount of fragment drops one summoner can acquire? I do win games on a regular basis. I do que with different people (although it is more of a friend rotation). And I have already unlocked several chests, rerolled and rerolled 3 skin shards to achieve pickpocket Twitch Now I have 2 unopened chests and haven't acquired ANY key fragments in 2-3 weeks I wanna say.

No I mean Riot has said themselves that the chances for key drops are much higher for the first few games for people who can't play as many games as other people. You can still acquire key and key fragments, but they're not as easy to get as you keep getting more.

it resets on a monthly basis. so if say, you got a bunch of key fragments because you a bunch in the first week you probably won't be getting them that often towards the end of the month.

Well, seeing as the hextech system is a free method of getting skins and stuff, I'd imagine it'd be difficult/awkward to get some aspect of it, it is gonna be a rare occurrence, since literally all of the money Rito makes is from out of game purchases. Honestly I'd guess the hextech crafting was introduced to incentivize spending more money, so either chests or keys have to be kinda rare. It also makes sense for keys to be the rarer one, as they cost less, therefore making it a bit more likely for someone to be willing to buy them.

Yes but fragment drops are extremely rare and it takes 3 of those just to open 1 chest.

for me its the opposite got keys just no chests :S they just wont drop

You have to get an S, S-, Or S+ in order to get a chest.

You can do this by getting a lot of kills with few deaths, a lot of assists, good cs, ect...\

(PS: Pantheon is a free crate basically lol)

I have gotten S's on defeats but that still won't yield you a chest

You don't need to win in order to get a chest, as long as you get an S rank. Granted S ranks are rather hard to get when you're on the losing team, but I've managed it before and received a chest.

Strange that you didn't, but perhaps you had no free chest slots/had already got an S rank chest for that champion when it happened for you?

I got an S- on poppy and lost the game and still got a chest. Also, its any variation of the S rank. - + and ♮.

There is a cd on when you can get chests. It will tell you on your profile when the next time is that you can get a box. Also you can only get them when you get S rank, and only once on each champion(per season I think)
