"Wards Destroyed" Includes Illaoi's Tentacles?

Is there a reason that Illaoi's tentacles are included in the count of "wards destroyed"?

I just played a game as Leona against an Illaoi support. Miss Fortune and I cleared a LOT of tentacles from bot lane. However, I also cleared several wards via judicious use of pink wards and sweeper, and I've been trying to keep track of how well I do at vision control.

While it's cool that I can get a rough idea of how many tentacles we were killing in the bot lane, what I really want to track is wards--how many I place, and how many I clear.

Is this a bug? Or is there a reason that tentacles are intentionally included in the match history's count of wards destroyed?
