Blame the AFKer or the Toxic Player?
So I had an... interesting game this morning and I'm not sure how to feel about it.
We had a rather verbally abusive Elise jungler. Even during champion select, this player had negative things to say about his or her teammates. I did my best to ignore it (although I had to speak up when the homophobic comments came up). Our Miss Fortune adc, on the other hand, decided to just not deal with it at all. About 8 minutes into the game, after a particularly harsh and unnecessary barb about bot lane from our jungler, MF announced "afk" and disconnected, never to return.
So, while fighting a losing 4v5 battle for another 20ish minutes, the Elise continued to spew toxicity and make an already less-than-pleasant gaming experience even more uncomfortable. I eventually muted the player. I hate muting players, but I just couldn't deal with the abuse being thrown around. I will say that the player was quite skilled with Elise--he or she was about the only person who managed to end the game with a respectable KDA, although he or she did spend a lot more time split pushing than I thought was appropriate for an assassin-style jungler.
After the game, I obviously reported the Elise for verbal abuse. However, I ALSO reported the Miss Fortune for AFK. I guess my question is, should I have reported the AFK? It certainly helped contribute to my negative gaming experience by turning a roughly even match into a tough 4v5. However, I can understand the player's reasons for disconnecting rather than facing verbal abuse. I don't really blame that player; the source of the problem was the toxic jungler.
I don't know. I guess I'm just feeling guilty for reporting the AFK. What do the rest of you think?
