Rakan or Sona?
My friends and I have been arguing for weeks about this now. Please, give your opinion, Rakan or Sona? Early, mid and late game pressure/usefullness. Please give your ideas!

Sona - reliable heal, reliable poke, shield, move buff, decent ranged auto with boosts possible. Rakan - high mobility (but only with Xayah), unreliable heal, unreliable knock-up, no useful starting support item (Spellthief might be useful now with the Q range change), squishy that needs to be in the middle of the enemies to affect a fight.
Really? Where's the question?
I mean it depends on the match up, and builds they have, but from someone who had played both I just cant let my girl down. To be fair though Rakan is still "new" so people havent unlocked his full potential. Plus i think the recent changes to him will help him greatly and i know ill try and use him more often now. But i just like the poke-ness on Sona. Building Full AP or mostly AP and basically shredding the enemy team from a Q is just awesome!
Rakan, you really need to have your team pay attention when you Ult or do the Knockup (cant remember if its w or e) Iv had times where i would initiate a team fight and have both of those skills go to waste because they rather go after someone else than the person that is Charmed/Knocked up.
in most cases its gonna be sona because if you don't know what your doing on rakan you are completely useless and he actually has to go into the enemies to be useful as a squishy
Sona Main here and I'm vote for Sona, especially if you're a low elo player. You can heal away bad positioning of your ADC, and she's more forgiving for you and your lane partners. Also, you can play her Mid. The Early game poke is great and creates pressure early, her Mid game is strong and her late game is good as well. She's a good all around champ, but for heals and Shields, I think Soraka and LuLu are better.
I think Rakan has a ton of potential and if you're willing to learn his kit and take your lumps as you learn then the disruption he provides and his mobility is pretty damn good.
If you are high elo players wouldn't this come down to basing it on the e enemies team comp?
Both work best with coordinated teams, but Rakan pretty much explicitly requires your allies to not be idiots, so glhf in solo-queue. Sona has more leeway in self-sufficiency.
Rakan has no consistent and reliable starting item either, since they screwed with Ancient Coin into demanding lane dominance; he can't poke frequently (or reliably) enough to make use of Spellthief's Edge; and he's considered ranged with no basic attack damage-increase like Thresh has, thus ruling out Relic Shield.
Rakan has basically no early-game at all. Sona's early-game is average. Both scale well into team-fighting and skirmishing, as well as sieging — Sona primarily by augmenting her allies, Rakan primarily by disrupting his opponents. Rakan more easily facilitates ganks.
Rakan is drastically more mobile and contributes an AoE knock-up on a basic ability and a multi-target charm on an ultimate, but has worse potential for damage and healing/shielding overall, along with weaker item choices due to the current support armory.
Rakan's cooldowns are goddamn atrocious whereas Sona is one of the few extant supports that still makes a good case for
.
Sona has more poke, sustain, CC in order to peel.
Rakan on the other hand has his W, E and a pretty low heal on his Q and R to run away.
Really depends on your playstyle though.
Sona no doubt. Good poke early and an amazing late game with a game changing ultimate.
Sona of course.
You're one of problems Eric. Reason I made this in the first place
Honestly, Rakan's early game is so atrocious I gotta side with Sona. Rakan's early game is legit bad. He gets better as the game goes but he provides no damage and his healing is unreliable. He also can't freely shield himself. Even if I've long advocated for Sona to be made more unreliable, so as to give room for a more interesting and useful skill ceiling, I wouldn't wish for a kit like Rakan's on even my most hated champs. Rakan is such a fucking cheerleader it's insane. Riot literally made a support that can't do a damn thing on his own even by support standards. They're gonna end up buffing him in my opinion.
Rakan, because you can actually look after yourself
I've gotta side with Rakan... he's too fun not to. His early game might not be as great as sona's but he's got great burst cc to engage and disengage fights in mid and late game, he has basically 3 dashes (4 if you build protobelt) letting him get in, cc, and get and even re-engage again if he really wanted to. He has the heal off his q, and 2 shields off his e.
In comparison to sona who only has the cc from her ult, I think Rakan has much better potential. Sona's poke and heal in lane are much better though, but I think she falls off as the game goes on

Uh, what? Sona is one of the only supports in the game that actually scales into the late-game, because her utility has AP scaling built into most of it, and her ultimate gives her secondary cooldown reduction. Her laning phase after her last update and subsequent nerfs is mediocre, but her entire existence past that revolves around
sieging and team-fighting, and she's one of the best supports to enable the former.
I was referring to my own game experience. I've never seen a sona do well in late game, but that doesn't mean that she's bad overall
You've never seen a good Sona then, I'm sad to say.
Or, you may have seen good Sonas, but they had terrible teams. Both are possibilities.
