@Riot Balance team - Thoughts from a Diamond Warwick Main since season 1.

Hello Riot/Community, I have been playing League of Legends since season 1. I eventually became really good at the game by playing the champions I enjoyed most. If I may rant for a moment before talking about Warwick. Now it always sucks to see your favorite champion nerfed. In my case it's been a frustrating ride because I cannot tell you how many times I had to fight against "This champion is bad, not viable, you're bad for picking this champion." This happened a lot with Warwick in particular EVER SINCE season 3. I really enjoyed playing non-meta champions for a long time, that were not played in the LCS (since season 3 started is what I am referring to ) it sucks that a lot of my most played champions had gotten nerfed. It's forced me into a position where I have to play champions I don't enjoy as much and instead HAVE to pick the best of the best. Originality has been slowly dwindling over the years, which is quite sad - at least to me.

Here I'll move on to the real discussion. I am "disappointed?" but not angry. I am being assertive in addressing my particular "main champion" although I guess you could consider it a bias. MY IDEAS ARE AT BOTTOM OF POST IF YOU WANT TO SKIP MORE RANTING.

In reference to what I stated earlier - I am kind of sad at how ridiculous the nerfs were on Warwick in particular. It was nice to be credited as a "Good Warwick player" seasons 1-4 UNTIL you made the 2015-pre-season changes. Which blew his power-scaling out of control. Not by the design of the champion, but by the design of the meta-game.

Here-in lies the issue. Warwick was not "over powered" until the introduced items. He was a diverse character with the ability to fill multiple roles but never was "THE BEST" at a role. He was ALWAYS out-shined by other champions. I endured a lot of harassment in ranked and played through hundreds of games to know this as the "general truth."

This is what happened thus far and I have a question or two after I finish.

  1. Warwick is considered "ok" at the end of season 4.
  2. New Jungle Changes + Items make Warwick Overpowered (which you had some knowledge of due to the per-emptive nerf on his ultimate cooldown. I agreed with this)
  3. It's discovered an overpowered item (if you do the math on it - it was too much for ANY auto attacker like xin or Udyr too. I tested it during the preseason the few times I played) blows Warwicks power out of control
  4. You nerf the over powered items AND Warwick at the same time.
  5. Warwick is now far inferior to other champions of his "most known" role.

I want to know why was he nerfed so hard? He's a character that is supposed to be a "duelist" but is out-dueled by ALMOST ALL OTHER CHAMPIONS now. Rek'Sai has more sustain, mobility, and damage than Warwick in every regard. I could go on an entire list but that's not the point.

It took SEVERAL patches to nerf Lucian "carefully" watching to see where his power was, it was "tone him down a little more" each patch. This is the pre-season and Warwick who was only "an ok champion" got nerfed hard along with the nerfing of the items he synergized most with?

You nerfed warwick to compensate for jungle changes (I agree 100%) You nerfed Warwick harder + The Item that makes a lot of AA junglers OP (I do not agree)

You need to fix the problem "you" (balance team?) introduced first before immediately nerfing a champion. In this case it was the broken item - Skirmishes Saber "Feral Flare equivalent" (which was strong on a lot of champions correct?)

So I will probably be looked at as just one person or possibly flamed for defending "my main champion" but seeing Lucian and other characters get carefully balanced and to see my main champion (I have not played much of pre-season I needed a break from League) get nerfed hard-core when through my experience believe the problem wasn't with the champion but the items introduced in the new season? I am going argue in favor of my champion of course - I was content with his previous power-level. Loved proving people wrong, although that time is gone I still want to see a playable champion.

So after this rant let me summarize what the issue is and propose "how I feel" he should be rebalanced.

Warwick shouldn't be nerfed SEVERELY due to over-powered items introduced in the new season.

  • The Items in question are already nerfed.
  • Revert the attack speed duration nerf. (He needs to be able to duel characters, every other character has either range or utility with their attack speed)
  • Ultimate Base Damage - 200 - 300 - 400 (So he is not over-powering early, but is still able to fight KIND OF late game. QSS and team mates just shut down warwick too hard) The values are less overall BUT this doesn't RUIN LANE WARWICK.

everyone agrees riot nerfed WW too much, and i have a feeling riot knows as well. i mean, i took one look at the patch notes and knew it. i think they went overboard to slowly scale him back up to par

Watch IEM, that patch Warwick was overpowered. However I believe he only won 1 game out of it. The lack on strategic options turned out the game every time. C9 didn't want to pick or ban it because they did well against it with all scrims. The lack on objective controle is probaly the main reason why Warwick wasn't effective.

It's like he's overpowered & underpowered add the same time. He just need that rework finished. That's it

I don't claim to understand the game well enough to understand all of the balancing levers involved, but my impression is that his win rate was out of control in solo queue. I suspect this was especially true at low ELOs, where an over-tuned champion with a simple kit can consistently wreak havoc.

Yeah his win rate was out of control during 4.20, but now no one seems to play him at all

I understand that he was an issue in solo queue, due to an over powered item. I have used that item on xin and udyr on patch 4.20. It was a strong item in general, before nerfing warwick they should have nerfed the item that made him so strong in the first place.. then see what to do next.

The reason why no one plays him is that his ultimate does the least base damage in the game probably. (When it comes to flat damage) that is easily countered and easily stopped by other team mates. It's not like a massive aoe ultimate like Orianna which disables CAN DISABLE AN ENTIRE TEAM WITH NO COUNTER PLAY (Qss isn't going to stop the pull) compared to the several counters you can do against Warwick.

His ultimate does less damage than his own Q. Hell, most abilities do more damage than Warwick's ultimate right now.
