Client freezes during champ select

When I attempt to create a new runepage during champion select, my client freezes and I am unable to choose or ban champions. This is EXTREMELY frustrating during ranked. I can minimize, click on settings, and exit client... but the screen goes entirely black when I click on settings.

Speaking of blacking out, since the client update. THE CLIENT SOMETIMES BLACKs OUT COMPLETELY and it's very frustrating to navigate and this includes champ select with ruins the competitive experience. Why hasn't this been fixed yet?
