Raise the Threshold for Ranked Entrance! (Catch Two Birds with One Stone)

A Swedish psychologist K. Anders Ericsson said "Becoming accomplished in any field in which there is a well-established history of people working to become experts requires a tremendous amount of effort exerted over many years."

Riot, we need to raise the threshold for entering ranked queues now. It's good for both new-comers and the existing player base. Do it before it's too late.

The Quality of Matches for Elos Silver and Below Would Improve

  1. Less unexperienced beginners (more time spent in norms)
  2. Less smurfs (harder entrance due to higher threshold)

(Catch Two Birds with One Stone!)

Um... i don't see how raising the threshold would hurt the system and new-comers.... Please comment if you can think of reasons how this would hurt new-comers or the system.

Now, let's discuss how to implement higher threshold.

  1. Increasing level requirement
  2. Increasing the number of champions owned requirement
  3. Introducing a new measure

In my opnion, increasing level requirement and inroducing a new measure could work well. Increasing the threshold of the number of champions owned seems less relevant, cause we have heard about many many many 1-tricks who could reach above diamond rank.

About introducing a new measure, i suggest that we take a mastery level of an owned champion into account. Let the beginner to have at least mastery level 3 on the champs that he or she will be playing. Let Riot know if you have ideas to do this.. those who read this... please don't just skim it and ignore it... it hurts me...

Anyhow, it's been proven that.... the accumulated amount of practice is closely related to the attained level of performance of many types of experts, such as musicians (Ericsson et al., 1993; Sloboda, et al., 1996), chessplayers (Charness, Krampe & Mayr, 1996) and athletes (Starkes et al., 1996). So... there's that. I mean... more specifically it's "a cognitively effortful activity" but... just time spent in norms or arams would be good enough.

"If you wish to become one of the best in the world in one of these highly competitive fields, you will need to put in thousands and thousands of hours of hard, focused work just to have a chance of equaling all of those others who have chosen to put in the same sort of work." - K. Anders Ericsson

  • Lastly i suggest that we introduce an in-client system matching beginners and those with "enough" hours on this game to foster a healthier enviornment. Riot could hand out carrots, such as BE or XP, to those who help new-comers thru in-client beginner helping system.

You are wasting your time, rito dont care, lower level requrement equals more money for them, they dont care about your or mine ranked experience.
