Quick Question

So, I play a lot of Dota and have a pretty good handle on how their ranked system works. It's a little different than League system. I just has a question about the League system though. I've done a bit of research and tried to find an in dept explanation of how it works since the amount of LP you win or lose seem a little in consistant to me. For example, in Dota you win or lose about 24-25 or your MMR for each game. I've played League games where I've gain maybe 15-20 LP but lost over 20 because of one game. I was just wondering if someone could explain to me like the math or whatever behind it. It would be very helpful.

Thanks.

Basically there is no cut and dry math for League, if your team has a higher based MMR than the enemy and you lose, you lose more points and gain less for winning.

I think you gain LP based on your MMR and who you were matched with (and/or against). So for example, if your MMR is high your LP gains will be high until your MMR is normal for your rank. If you went on a win streak (causing higher ranked players to be matched against you) you'd gain more LP and lose less due to the increasing difficulty.

Please note this is NOT for sure true, though it does seem to work this way.
