Update to Picks and Ban Phase

When this game was first released, and even well into the first few season there was a much smaller champion pool to select from. Since then the champion pool has increased a few times over. Even since the season one world championships there has been approximately 36 new champions. For this reason I believe it is time to implement a fourth ban during the ban phase. This fourth ban will be closer to the original percentage of banned champions per match and can definitely shake things up a bit in the meta. I think it would would be an exciting new feature for Season 5 and something people would really have to study and be ready for. This would force pros and even amateurs to take more time to learn additional champions and allow for more interesting match ups. Everyone always says that the LCS and world's does not have enough variety, and I believe this will also contribute to forcing players to play more champions. If it is a question of the picks and ban phase taking too long. I also suggest that the bans should be lower from 30 seconds per ban to 30 seconds per ban. This will force teams to be quicker in deciding whom to ban without completely crippling team mates ability to influence the individual doing the banning. The maximum time per team now for bans is 90 seconds, with 4 bans at 25 seconds this amount only increases by 10 seconds, or 20 seconds overall.

Thoughts and suggestions?

Sounds good, however, I don't think this will have as big of an effect as you think it will. Most professional players have large enough champion pools to get by even a few extra bans. This would make target bans on people like Dade a lot worse though.

I would go as far as to give 5bans per team, and iterate pick&ban-phases (like Dota does):

  • it adds a lot more depth to the pick&ban-phase, as you then will try to pick strong champs early, but on the same time would want to don´t give away your tactic with the early picks so you don´t get banned out on it after the first round of picks
  • It would diversify strategies and Champions played greatly

The change I want to see, is that the last pick gets the bans, so you stop seeing first pick ban out their three biggest counters and first pick someone, then you all have to deal still with hyper carries in every other lane.

The extra bans would allow for more lee-way in champion power and diversity. So the old olaf could have stayed the old olaf if you had a few more bans.

I'm in for anything that makes the champ select faster. More bans doesn't help. TBH 75% of the time at my ELO in solo Q, it's the same picks anyway. Yasuo, Trist, Leo, Fizz, Akali, jax, yi. I feel bad for people who like to play Yasuo since he's perma banned.
