2018 season thoughts (so far)
So I am sure i am not the first but i have been playing league since season 1. Always sat on the line of gold 1 and plat 5. I took a year off from league. When I came back everything is way different so wanted to discuss thoughts and improvements. My preseason placement I won 2 and lost 8 so my initial thoughts were hate new mastery system. Hate new runes. Where are my move tier 3 boots? Why can't a last hit? Riot broke league blah blah. Nerf Irelia. After several more games I think it's actually closer to better than I first thought. The new masteries take a little getting use to but certain champs benefit immediately ( ie even with the nerf leona is still AMAZING love the new sightstone support items). I have accepted if no one has tier three boots its still balanced. In general I am digging the changes, (especially new objectives like dragons, rift lord, the bonus gold for first tower and shutdowns). But I still think there are a few areas that could benefit. But want to keep complaints to a minimum and voice to help make experience better. I think there are a few items and masteries and champs that need a buff of some sort. For instance magical boots....I am not sure it's good or bad. On leona 10 minutes is super fair but I tried it on ammumu after someone recommended it....and in that instance I feel like 8 or 9 minutes its where my curve needs to be to gank better and jungle faster. Also the cinderhulk jungle item upgrade....I feel like the dps is too low to take it over sunfire cape. But since jungle item is mandatory start I find myself selling it off mid to late game. I just wish it was a more viable choice. Finally a few mid laners brand, malz and morg for instance who use aoe to farm. Without being able to take hybrid pen and magic damage runes/glyphs....last hitting is much harder. I dont think they need a big buff because their vs champion poke is fine but maybe 2-3 more vs minions on auto attack. Finally I really enjoy the new champion select system. I even find myself locking fill even instead of picking a lane because no one is fighting over roles. Also digging the honor system I think it has helped improve the community in a positive way more than the old report system. My only complaint is in champ select I dislike blind bans.....especially in ranked. The strong champs are almost always pick or ban and the remainder of your bans used to be to counter pick. Now with everyone going at once there isnt time to discuss as a team. And with it being blind having yasuo banned twice.....seems like a waste. I think its fair for everyone to still have a ban instead of all being on first pick but part of the strategy feels like its missing. I know people mean well but sometimes they ban picks for my lane that I am comfortable playing against. I dunno I remember when only had 4 bans and then going to 6 and now having anywhere between 5 to 10 bans depending on how many duplicates you get feels off somehow. But it does make queue time faster. That is the biggest thing I'd like to see tweaked but overall it's nice to come back. If anyone has any other thoughts or suggestions I know riot reads these from time to time.
