PLEASE PUT IN A VOTE DODGE FEATURE!!

Proxiimus··127 votes·6,482 views

Please Riot.. please the community begs you to put in a 'Vote Dodge' feature during champ select. Have it a 4 out of 5 vote to be successfully passed. This is a much needed feature to battle trolls, and to battle the players who say 'Mid or feed' or 'ADC ONLY'... Why should someone have to wait 5 minutes and lose 3lp to save them selves the 40 minutes of a wasted game and lose 20 LP.. It makes me look bad when I dodge 2 times a day.. but in reality I am saving myself 40-60minutes and losing a massive amount of LP.. A suggestion would be to have a 'vote dodge' feature, and a dropdown to WHO in the lobby is causing the dodge.. That was Riot can track which players are being habitual reasons for people dodging therefore eliminating them from ranked and making the experience much more better! Hear me out Rito!! Thanks!

And what this will lead to is one team vote dodging when the enemy team out picks them. "Oh you screwed up the ban/picks and now the enemy team has Sej/Sion/Leblanc/Jinx/Annie? Oh well vote dodge." Ban/picks are part of the game and we do not need a get out of jail free card when you fail at it.

Proxiimus11 votes

You do need a get out of Jail card when you have a troll, and a guaranteed loss from the beginning.. then you have to sit through 20 minutes of a game you are guaranteed to lose. Maybe you aren't in low elo like the majority of us.. but this is a lot more common than in gold+.. I can't tell you how many times someone has wanted mid.. then the last pick says 'mid only or feed'. Why should you have to wait to lose 20LP 20 minutes later to report that person?? Thats why I suggested the feature that the team has to pick the summoner that is the reason for the dodge.. that way Riot can figure out who is trolling in pre-game and can eliminate them from ranked.

The problem isn't that "vote kick" or "vote dodge" doesn't solve this problem. The problem is that they're obviously abusable for competitive reasons. Someone picks a champ you think is UP? Kick them or vote to dodge. Other team out drafted you? Kick whoever's last pick or vote to dodge.

If your response is "well, punish people who abuse it" -- EVERYONE will abuse it. Heroes of Newerth had vote kick like this for a while and they had to remove it because it was almost never used to actually get rid of trolls.

I still think the good of this system outweighs the bad. Nowadays, there aren't too many non-acceptable picks, as long as you are picking a champion for a lane that they belong to. I have had several games in which I had a troll on my team, or someone who was extremely negative from the get go, and I end up dodging, this is especially prevalent when im in my promos. I full agree with the OP.

I still think the good of this system outweighs the bad.

It won't and never will. In fact, during the LoL beta we didn't even have dodge penalty... the system was fuked up and it took more than 20 minutes to even start a game since people could dodge freely for whatever reasons. Hence, we have the penalties and stuff now.

WESTFALL3 votes

You don't understand that in order for this to happen, 4 people have to actually agree on something which is basically a subjective thing like the consideration of a champion being UP.

This feature will probably make players talk to their teammates and consider their opinions more when picking a champion or banning from now on. Just like it needs to happen.

It's called teamwork. And this is basically a way to enforce it.

You either communicate with your teammates either get kicked out.

I'm tired of selfish dudes thinking they can play whatever they want when the team actually needs something in order for it to work properly. Like the team being in need of a mid laner and the dude wanting to play duo jungle.

Heroes of Newerth tried this and found that it was very rarely used for its intended purposes. It doesn't enforce teamwork, it enforces "last pick has to do exactly what everyone else says or they get kicked".

All i hear is about this HoN system that they had.

Can i get more concrete information about how their system worked and what did it to exactly ?

Because I don't think it was actually the same thing OP tries to promote.

So I wait for it

I'm at gold III and people hardly ever troll on champion selection. Then, in game, they are the worst, but in champion selection everybody accepts playing what they have to. Except for the occasional random troll.

I was just about to mention the same thing you posted right after I read this thread.

I've been running around in my head and thinking of a good possible solution but I can't. It's really hard to figure it out without considering the possible consequences.

Good point, maybe make it for normal teambuilder and blind pick? I don't see a way around abuse for ranked atm. It's a partial solution.

WESTFALL2 votes

You're basically taking his exaggerations as a normality on what it would happen.

It's highly improbable that 4 random guys will just vote kick somebody at random from their team because the enemy team out picked them.

BatteryDead2 votes

I just assume the worst when it comes to this, the possibility of the dodge being abused is very real. Now as to what extent I don't know, but I hope it would be very low. I'm not going to pretend that I know how the majority of players will use this.

Counter point:

If the voting system penalizes the one who is being voted against, who would willfully volunteer to be penalized by loosing lp and having to wait a time penalty? And if riot could somehow differentiate those who get voted against frequently, to enact harsher punishments (such as leaver buster), who would want to be a scapegoat in this instance? Just a question/thought.

Flemman2 votes

isn't it obvious that, even without being friend ingame or stuff like that, if poeple want to dodge after a bad pick/ban phase they will abuse the system (first guess, the player base will blame the first pick who do the ban and it will be the meta for "how to dodge" in less than a week)

LoL Ergo Urgot2 votes

No it isn't obvious, I have a least one person, sometimes two even, who are really good stand up people in all my lobbies. The example you gave I feel is conjecture at best. It is possible, but I do not feel it would be a normalcy.

I've been as low as Silver IV and didn't come close to encountering the amount of trolls so many of you claim to see. Do I believe they are there? Sure, but do I believe it is as rampant and extensive as you guys like to say? No. I've seen people complain they have a troll every game, I've seen people complain they have DCs every game. I've gone from Silver IV to gold I during various seasons and I can count the number of trolls on one hand.

I'm not talking about a vote kick.. I'm talking about a 4 out of 5 vote.. where you HAVE to highlight the player that is the cause.. Therefore you can't just do a random vote. That will highlight the consistent players in lobbies who are causing them.. I'm not talking about a blind, just vote to dodge feature.. I'm talking about this feature would be like a pre-game report.. instead of wasting 20 minutes of a game to surrender and report, also losing up to 20 LP.

"I'm not talking about a vote kick"

"I'm talking about a 2 out of 5 vote highlighting 1 person as the cause."

Um those thing are the exact same. No matter how you try to spin it to make it sound better it doesn't change what it is.

Proxiimus3 votes

Ok so it doesn't change what it is.. but You're making it sound as if its just a 'hey everyone lets just dodge' vote.. I'm trying to find a solution to people losing LP that they worked hard for when they get into a game when there is a troll or a negative player from the get go. It's unfair to the other people in the lobby.. that someone has to dodge, wait 5 mins and lose 3LP because of 1 person. It's an unfair system because if you go into the game.. theres a 99.9% chance you're going to lose that game because of that said player in champ select.. therefore you wasted 20-60 minutes and lose 15-20 LP.

Narasimha4 votes

The alternative is never getting to playing a game.

Because if your team isn't the one initiating the dodge/kick, the other team will.

Martyrofsand8 votes

The "hey everyone lets just dodge" vote is exactly what it will be. You can call what you want, you can have all of the best of intentions for it but the reality is that it won't be used for that. It's like riot created Sightstone for the purpose of giving supports a means of not having to spend all their money on wards and yet Lee Sin runs all over the map with it wrecking people, and there really isn't a logical means for riot to prevent that.

This would be the same thing. You can have the best of intentions for a system like this, to punish players who are toxic from the start, to prevent trolls from ruining a game, and to some of the extent it may get used for that, but at the end of the day the primary way it would be used would be to stop games when you get out picked/banned, by 4 man premades who don't like their 5th, and other trolly bullcrap. We saw it in HoN and there is zero reason to believe it would be used in another way.

Understand this, it takes 2 people to tango. There might be the occasional person who only wants to troll people for the same of trolling people, but those are very few, more than likely what the problem is, is that you have 2 people who each want the same thing and instead of communicating, and working things out between then they want to devolve it into a "I want it, no I want it" shouting match like toddlers. You know how I dealt with seeing someone in champ select say "mid or feed?" I shrugged and said "k fill" and just moved along with life. Wouldn't you know it they took mid, many times they stomped, and I supported/jungled/topped/adc and did my part and I climbed the ladder. There are several roles and several ways of enjoying this game if you are so tied to 1 spot that it is worth fighting with someone over it and creating a toxic situation in your team before the game even begins than yeah I'm gonna say the problem is you.

@Its Spongebob, no the good doesn't out weight the bad. If that was true HoN wouldn't of removed the exact same system from their game due to how it was abused. You are not looking beyond your own issues to see the problems with this system and why it fails.

The Ecdysiast5 votes

You really assume a lot of players. Like assuming 4/5 players will be able to band together in champion select quick enough to abuse the system. You can hardly get people to surrender after 20 minutes together when the enemy has a better team and has been fed. You're just blowing it out of proportion.

And the 100 people who play HoN probably know eachother by name, so it's a lot easier to abuse theirs than this one would be.

Art Of Solo Q2 votes

4 man premade could abuse it without effort. 3 man premade could as well, just not as often. even duos in ranked could abuse this. Popping the vote in and of itself randomly could probably net you 1 out of 50 dodges as a solo q player. Even if you say 1 in a 100, that's a ton of extra dodges to clog up the Q times, a ton of extra reports for some unlucky player that they pointed out whether he did anything or not. Your point with the ff is a diff situation, but to an extent you have a point. Now think back to how often people have ff'd in your games when you were the one guy voting no(for good reason or not). how often was that? 1 in 100 ffs? probably more, but even then - now imagine that for normal mode. for all those players who are trolls popping that vote up, now for all the duos, 3 mans, 4 mans, etc. I don't agree with his full point either but you know it would happen, we all do.

The real tragedy of this situation is the simple fact we cant beat trolls, once you realize that it will be much better for you. But giving trolls, ragers, clueless players, mid or feed types, and all those silly premades another way to abuse the system wont help anything. The number of situations this type of system COULD fix, just isn't worth the number of situations it COULD bring. Cause the truth about trolls is, they will troll. Ban them, it does nothing. Mute them, it does nothing. Dodge? And the smart ones adapt, and only troll in game instead of champ select. Eventually this system would be more abuse then help. Its just the way a team game is, this type of game at least. Trolls understand this. I guarantee you a true troll, would love this idea. They may even be upvoting these type of posts or be the makers of them.

WESTFALL1 votes

THE OP IS CLEARLY TALKING ABOUT THE RANKED ASPECT OF IT NOT OF NORMAL GAMES IN WHICH 4 MAN PREMADES CAN JUST VOTE OTHER PEOPLE

HOW BLIND CAN YOU PEOPLE BE ?

I started to point out the irony in your post then stopped myself. I wont respond if you respond to this because of the obvious(not to you ofc) and truth be told mainly because this post isn't to you. This is for those that understand what you said doesn't make sense and to those who still aren't sure which side is correct.

OP's idea is flawed, as others have pointed out it does nothing to help the issue. Along with the other flaws that again, others including myself have pointed out, ranked Q side of it and even the normal Q side of it has been debated. No reason to mention them again. Though i would like to mention the fact that we are all on the same side, no reason to insult people. Most of us clicked this link because we are tired of trolls. Or to simply put in our views on a dodge mechanic in some form or another. Anything to help vs trolls etc.

So no matter which side you are on, don't be rude because at the end of the day we literally all want the same thing, a more enjoyable experience.

HidingOverHere3 votes

surrendering = 100% loss of lp. possibly saved some time to play another game and get it back.

dodging in champ select = zero risk. nobody loses lp. same saved time to possibly join another queue with a better team and win.

Dodging is way more likely to go off than surrendering.

The Ecdysiast5 votes

2 things:

  1. It was obviously only be available in solo queue, where it would be hard to get four people who just met to agree on a vote. Therefore making it harder to get everyone to agree that the enemy team will beat them before the game begins. (It's hard enough to get a team to vote 4/5 to surrender when the enemy is 20 kills ahead, you REALLY think people will be able to abuse this like you claim?)
  2. I don't need a 2, you're just assuming it'll be abused more than it will.

I'd say tops like 2 a day is what I've seen, usually only 1. But it is kind of annoying losing 22 lp to some jackass then only getting 15 when I pick it back up.

That being said, this system could never work, and I hope to god they don't even consider putting it in.

killd0zer2 votes

No it wouldn't lol. In fact, how many times does champion select go wrong soely due to ONE player? I mean exactly ONE player is the reason it went bad.

I'd argue atleast 80% of the time, the issue is that two players can't agree over who gets what. A vote kick doesn't fix that, in fact it lets one of the players use their friends to kick the other guy out. It's pretty uncommon that someone actually picks a "troll pick" just to ruin the game.

Vote to END a game makes more sense, but you can clearly see the issue there. You vote to end whenever odds are against you.

Proxiimus1 votes

You're not reading my original post through.. My feature I suggested would be a drop down menu basically making you choose which summoner is the cause for the dodge.. So basically if that player gets into another queue, causes the same issues they can report that same player.. and Riot can single out that person and put a timeout on them from ranked. This isn't just a suggestion for a blind dodge.. this is basically a pre-game report instead of having to wait 20-50 minutes and lose 20 LP in order to report someone.

killd0zer2 votes

You clearly didn't read what I said. When is a queue's issue ever just 1 person only? Most of the time there is conflict, it's usually when two or more people can't agree on something. It's pretty rare when it's one person who is causing the problem.

This mean your proposed system will never work as you intend it. It's not gonna be 4 people justly reporting a troll. It's gonna be two or more sides of people who are mad at each other. The side that has more people on it is "right" and the others suffer.

Proxiimus1 votes

No, It IS always 1 person.. Most common thing is the person who is last pick says "Mid or feed" , or "TOP ONLY" and when they don't get the lane they want.. they troll and feed on purpose.. What happens after the game? EVERYONE loses 20 HARD EARNED LP and the idiot gets reported.. BUT the rest of the team is punished for losing the league points they worked hard to get. Its NOT FAIR. And my system would work.. because 2 sides would be 4v1.. and in soloQ you can only DUO, so you'd have to beg the other 2 for a vote and a report.. Its not like it would be a blind dodge.. SOMEONE would have to be reported as the reason for the dodge, by EVERYONE who voted for it. Riot would then see the habitual truants in champ select and be able to eliminate them from ranked. My biggest problem is with the league point loss. In Low elo its HARD for us to get league points.. and when you get them.. you lose more league points when you lose, than you gain when you win.. My proposal would be to only HELP the people who are encountering this.

killd0zer2 votes

That's just not true though.

Imagine if player A asks for Irelia, and Player B then bans Irelia just to annoy them. Player A is mad and "trolls". Who's in the wrong? One might be the lesser of two evils, but they both contributed to the issue.

I think a better solution is let people see if someone they reported actually gets punished. I'd be a lot happier letting someone who demanded TOP OR FEED get their position, if I learn they're gonna be punished for it later.

IS1a442cd69a169ed293a397 votes

You have to limit it in some way.

Think of this way, if a person chooses a champ others don't like, chances are he will get kicked and lose LP for no reason.

I honestly like your concept, but it just has intolerable flaws. Why create toxicity for eliminating toxicity?

Kairya6 votes

Didn't they want to bring Teambuilder to ranked queues? That would probably improve the situation anyways.

iainB853 votes

The biggest problem I see with this feature is that playing anything off meta will be extremely difficult, especially in ranked. How many times you want to bet 4 people would vote queue dodge to avoid playing with something they don't think will give them the best chances of winning?

WESTFALL2 votes

That only happens because people can't politely talk to people before picking an " off meta " champion .

I play teemo mid a lot and shaco top and gangplank mid and no one seems to mind if i ask them if they trust me with them first .

A system like this would enforce people to ask teammates for permission first . And i don't think that if you politely ask and say what you're willing to do to them all 4 of them will automatically disagree with you

Drunk Rummate3 votes

I'd rather not have people dodge for free because of 4 people who are salty that they didn't get mid lane.

I'd also like to not give teams the ability to dodge because they fked up in champ select. That's part of the strategy for the game.

I am from the NA server and I can see what everyone is saying. Personally, I did my promos last season and placed Silver V. After I went on vacation and decayed into Bronze I (imagine how I felt when about 3 weeks later decay was removed.) But it is almost impossible to climb out of bronze due to this. I'm afraid to even do my promos now due to trolls. Every single game is someone wanting to duo mid because they can't play any other roll, or running into the enemy team to give them kills because they find it funny. Personally I will play every position if I have to but many low elo players are not versatile. This feature should maybe be used but only in bronze-silver ranked games? I'm not sure how to balance it. Something is definitely needed because our report system is basically useless and this happens more times than it does not. But I do see people abusing this system a lot. Good idea but I doubt Rito will use it.

Sadly the cons outweigh the pro's on this since its' been discussed for quite some time and you run into the same theoretical walls so to speak. While most of the cons have already been discussed I'll post some that haven't but have come up in other threads dealing with other suggestions.

  1. The cost, is the cost of doing this worth the small return it may give given the known cons? That is the cost in terms of time, resources, money that could be better used on others projects. Because remember they can't just throw money at a problem nor simply swap employees around.

  2. Is it even possible to code this so it can't be abused or make the abuse of such a small concern? How much time/resources/money would this take and is it worth the ROA?

  3. Is it a high enough priority that you'd put in front of say ranked team builder or other improvements that will give more bang for the buck so to speak?

  4. How many people will this impact based upon the smaller amount of the community that does ranked versus the smaller amount of actual trolls? Since in actuality the number of trolls is a lot smaller than people think. Remember not everyone is a troll who picks off meta, or plays bad etc.

Those are the main ones that Riot will ask if they respond to this and perhaps not in the same words I've written but the ideas the same. Is it worth the time/money/resources etc and does it need priority over other things?
