Why is Xerath the only immobile mid lane champion used in competitive scene?
Why him and not others?
Why him and not others?
Massive range and tons of siege power.
Mana regen passive.
Besides his mana regen (while that certainly helps, I wouldn't say its the end all, be all of viability) its definitely his long range since it makes him significantly more safe than some other mid laners. Other mid laners just arn't as safe as he is, and risk VS reward is one of the biggest things that affect if you're a good competitive pick.
Thats not to say Xerath has too much reward, rather I think some other immobile champions have too little reward for how risky they are.
You'd consider Cassiopeia a mobile mid laner?
Mh.. well, her Q gives her movement speed, so she's not completely immobile.
For example, I find
immobile.
Xerath has over 2x brand's range. Brand's range is considered medium by today's standards. His E is useless against mobility (it's also useless against long range champs because it's not a reliable source of damage and way too risky to use offensively) because it's on a such low range that by the time you get to use it you're toast because they've already gap closed on you and the stun won't make enough distance.
Also xerath has an unconditional stun with a wide projectile and long range, and an unconditional aoe slow.
Brand has a conditional stun and decent damage.
To sum it up: his weaknesses are clearly not only his immobility (which is xerath's only glaring weakness)
His niche (long range waveclear and sieging) is in demand?
The fact that he has mana regen on his passive probably helps as well.
The base and scaling damage bro.
He's not.
and
also see a lot of competitive play. If you disregard his ultimate
also sees a goodly amount of play.
Well I don't consider
and
immobile. Cassio has skillshot which gives her a self movement speed buff, as well as Orianna if she shields herself.
Yea, I forgot TF. He has no mobility, if we don't count out his ultimate, which has a very high CD, but I didn't see him lately.
When I write "immobile champions", I think about
.
Because
got stupidly overnerfed in 5.1.
There is a clear niche in pro play for siege mages with obnoxious range and pick potential. There just aren't many such mages to work with.
Innate mana regen/Long range/CC(Slow, stun)
He can safely use his spells behind terrain which makes it harder to reach him. Ziggs Q might interact with terrain and make it even more difficult for him to hit his targets. think about it, if a fight breaks out around Baron, Xerath can position himself behind the pit and still be effective in the team fight. That and short cool downs make him ideal for these situations.

Behind the pit? He might as well go behind the red buff camp while he's at it.
because he's incredibly overpowered but Rito will not nerf him because he's an immobile mage that actually sees play.
OP? Maybe annoying to play against? But a lot of champions are immobile like him.
Range and Mana regen
Mana regen, range, cds, and cc.
because hes op
Because range.
Let's nerf Xerath too so we can play only Zed against to Caitlyn. There is no place for mages! They cant be powerful, if they do they should get nerf to oblivion. DONT BUFF OTHER MAGES, JUST NERF THEM.
Seriously, Xerath was not strong that before mana changes, a lot of mages got nerf. Orianna, Syndra and others who can deal with Xerath got nerfed. What did you expect? Also top mages of present are who can restore their mana. Lissandra, Cassiopeia, Xerath, Swain, Malzahar. Swain and Malzahar have high winrates and others see compertative plays. And other high winrate AP champions are manaless ones too.
Just buff mana regen on mages so he will be fine.
Swain? Too weak in early game, 0% pick rate in LCS.
Malzahar?
0% pick rate in LCS.
Swain? Too weak in early game, 0% pick rate in LCS. Malzahar?
0% pick rate in LCS.
That doesnt mean they're weak. Look their winrates. Higher than you think.
I think you misunderstood me.
Swain has to be weak in early game because I find him to be beast, BUT he's never played in competitive scene because It's so easy to shot down him early game. Malzahar is outclassed by Orianna in all senses. Orianna outclasses a lot of champions, not only Malzahar, making them not viable IMO.

Orianna is not strong now. And Malzahar has %54 winrate, how is he outclassed?
Win rate means nothing. Malzahar: 54.27% -> 0% pick rate Orianna: 46.95% -> Played in LCS because she's the safest mid lane champion in the game

I just laugh this.
If you see Malzahar in the future of LCS. Remember me, okay?
Peace < 3
Peace < 3
Why? I'm not even angry you or sulk.

Because Xerath doesn't need to be mobile to poke enemies to death from a safe distance. lol, safe distance. Now that's an understatement for Xerath. Whenever I play carry and I have Xerath on my team, I feel freaking useless because everything's usually dead by the time I'm close enough to attack.
Please, dont exaggerate.
Dat range.
