"Gangplank is useless"

having a good game with a character does not constitute them being useless. gangplank is one of the weakest characters in the entire game. He is so easy to obliterate in lane and just does absolutely nothing for his team besides a perma slow with low damage and some AD. His passive is completely worthless outside of lane and his only viable build is tank because if you go crit plank you get absolutely destroyed in team fights. No character is useless but GP is pretty close. There are 30 other top laners that do his job better than him, whatever his "job" is
Given that gangplank hasn't been nerfed in over 3 years he's actually pretty solid right now for solo queue (52% win rate). He might also be good in competitive play, as Gangplank is inherently good in a 2v1 as w makes dives harder and q is great for farming. He also has a fair amount of flex, with Tankplank (trinity+tank) actually being an excellent all around bruiser when he doesn't get his face smashed in during laning phase due his global pressure and the difficulty of preventing him from doing a lot of damage to your carry and when fed Critplank does an absolutely ridiculous amount of damage. He also has better tools for laning mid compared to other options, meaning that when gp is good you can pick him and then mix things up with a rumble or vlad pick. That said, the competitive scene is generally extremely cautious when expanding their champion pools (for good reason), meaning that he's unlikely to make an impact until after his rework when people start playing him again.
