Swain is weak. the math behind his damage numbers is flawed, and needs an increase. Let me explain.

So I play Swain for a game or 2. Swain has some noticeable weaknesses that literally cannot be worked around. If someone exploits this weakness you die, regardless if you are faker or a noob. First off though, I would like to say that this champion, when compared to other mages, Simply does not balance out with them. When playing Swain I have to sacrifice so much positioning to get the same average damage as any other mage. Swain's Q is pathetic. Let me explain, So Xerath can deal about 60.8 (excluding scaling) damage with his Q at level 1 against someone who's resist equals 24% less magic damage taken. from a long range. Swain how ever will deal about 83.6 damage (including scaling) at level 1 if he hits someone with all 5 eldritch bolts. (deaths hand) against someone with the same resist at point blank range!?!?!

I was up against an Ekko yesterday, and I hit him with all of my lightning bolts and it only did 75 magic damage. thats all the damage I get to do for being in point blank range with my Q? MasterYi can literally do more damage than that just by attacking once AND he doesn't use any mana doing so, AND can do that same damage again just over a second later. how is that mathematically balanced in anyway. I actually use math to make my balance suggestions, Riot just throws some numbers in there and hope it works.

I looked at the patch history for swain and I am very unhappy with simply how mathematically flawed their nerfs were to Swain the last 2 times he was patched. First of all he needs the damage you took away from his Q OR just increase the damage per additional eldritch bolt that hits the same target. Frankly the damage reduction for additional bolts shouldn't exist at all. This might be an unpopular opinion and it may seem busted but the reason I am saying this is because he needs to stay in pace with the other mages. Velkoz being the main one. his beam does more damage than Swain's ult in less time and because of this people will run away instead of jumping on Velkoz like most of my opponents do when I use demonic ascension. (swains ult)

Which brings me to swains ult, demonic ascension. It literally does nothing to help me in any way in a fight. It doesn't keep me alive, and doesn't do enough damage. Gathering all of those soul fragments isn't rewarding enough. His ultimate takes time to charge up and costs all of his soul fragments and does less damage than some ultimate's that activate near instantly? (final spark) again with flawed math and logic of this game.

Want some more logic fails in league of legends? how about when Karthus uses his ult it does guaranteed damage to all enemy champions. Swains ult does less damage than that AND you have to be close to use the demon flare portion which also does less damage than requiem.

My point is that Swain has a base line power that is too low and should mathematically balance out with other champions because of the cost of the abilities swain has. Xerath Not only has to pay mana to do less damage than other mages, but has to pay in positioning and sometimes health to cast his abilities because you had to get in Melee range to poke with your q to get the max damage out of it which means the enemy mid lane assassin will trade back usually with bigger easier to hit damage. which sucks. So, there fore, Swain's q needs more damage so getting into melee range as a mage (easily dived on and killed), spending a moderate amount of mana, and taking some damage in return matches the damage of the ability deaths hand more realistically. Personally Swain's extra lightning bolts damage should start at 35% not 15% and go to 55% as he ranks up q. Now that would be enough to match the other costs of using swains kit.

Leave me your thoughts.

You being bad at Swain does not make Swain bad

you forgot on how Swain is a battle mage while the others are just artillery so he isn't as squishy so ofc he's going to deal less dmg than the champs that have no defense or utility. you're throwing in a channel ability that can be cancelled with Karthus r if you cc swain he just doesn't drop the whole thing, and it go on cd

To be fair, you are comparing him to normal mages. Swain is a BATTLE mage, meaning he builds a bit beefier in exchange for lower overall damage than other mages. This battlemage position means he can be played mid by a skilled player, but overall doesn't deal as much damage as the other laner. If you play him mid, you're turning the matchup from a damage fiesta to a skill matchup, which you wont have after 2 games. Try taking him toplane. He shines a little better up there.

This thread is why we need gameplay+

Swain's strength comes from his CC, sustain and tankiness. AFAIK, he's the only battle mage with multiple forms of hard cc on basic abilities (passive and e).

why is everyone so afraid of buffs what the hell are you guys willing to try something new at all? Swain is C tier (shit tier) wtf is up with this community segregating certain champs they do not like to play against because they suck and do not know how to correctly balance a champion. You guys are going to have to do better than that to stop the hard proof I put behind this thread.
