Ruby Sightstone... Is it ever worth it?

Now I would never deny the importance of item 2049, it more than pays for itself as the game goes on, but item 2045 I've only ever felt the need to buy once. And that game was going on to over an hour long. I feel like giving it something else other than just 250 more health and 1 more ward charge would make it seem actually worth buying it earlier than usually not at all.

I'm not a super experienced player, but even when watching LCS matches or the live feed in the client, I don't really remember ever seeing a item 2045. Even the item 2049 on it's own feels like it brings nothing else other than just ward charges, which is a necessity of course, but as a support I'd like it to give a little bit more than just 150 health as far as stats. Maybe a unique passive that differs depending which support income item you have. With item 3302 gives a small amount of health regen, item 3303 5+ AP or 20% mana regen, ect ect. And upgrading to item 2045 increases the value of the unique passive giving more health or mana regen depending on the item.

The reason just for support income items is because Jungler's only sometimes buy item 2049 and on top of the item 1039 passives with additional upgrades, along with jungler's having more money and freedom to build differently, I feel it'd be better for a support to get more from a item 2049 since we always, always buy one. While trying to make item 2045 a bit more relevant instead of collecting dust in the shop.

Regular Sightstone = Godsend Ruby Sightstone = Very last thing you upgrade, I'd even say buy an elixir before it.

I think it'd be neat if they gave Sightstone a couple of upgrade paths that were actually viable, instead of one last-step upgrade that really doesn't help much.

The upgrade for Sightstone simply exists to make it more slot-efficient in case your game lasts more than 50 minutes. I think it used to be instantly upgraded in Sason 3 when the upgrade was gold-efficient but they changed it because it delays other items that do something else than vision.

Maybe I'm thinking about this all wrong, but when do you currently upgrade your item 2049 ? When your inventory is full. What can't you do when your inventory is full? Buy more item 2043 .

What if the item 2045 held 5 charges and made it so if you had 3 item 2044 's on the map the next one it spawned was a item 2043 ?

It's a little clumsy, to be certain, but it's better than where it's at. Its ability to give you wards worth 100 gold is based on you warding already, and getting good placement of the pink ward requires you to know what wards you have where.

Even item 2049 isn't that great considering at level 9 you can get pretty much the same thing for 250 gold by upgrading yellow trinket, If the enemy team hasn't got stealth, it's definitely better to go this route instead of sightstone.

Ruby SS is great for cinderhulk junglers. The extra health is well worth it since you are taking up a slot in your inventory anyway. Plus, more wards = more wins. I do think that it should definitely be cheaper to buy though.

I often get item 2045 on Sona as late game approaches if I need the health (I build almost pure AP, no room for defensive items outside of item 3174 or occasionally item 3157 ). Also that 5th charge is really good when you are a sustain machine and don't have to back really except to get wards; it allows you to stay out longer if you need to.

Good, then it's working as intended. The whole point of making the upgrade weak is so that you can build something else. What else? Well, that depends on who you are and your situation. Which is a whole lot more interesting than "buy this always because you're a support".

Frankly, I'd love to get rid of always rushing regular Sightstone too, but it would require a further expansion of the trinket system to take the place of the current gold-for-vision system (which I have posted about at length in a similar thread). Riot is really unlikely to make a change that big mid-season, but I hope they consider it for preseason 6.

Upgrade to Ruby when you litteraly have nothing else to do with you money, that includes buying an elixir and considering switching boots!

Built it once in a game as Soraka. Me and my ADC didn't have many opportunities to return to base that often. When the dragon was up I'd have already used up the sight stone charges.

I only ever buy ruby sightstone if I'm ever really going at it with the enemy support because we keep clearing each others wards in a ward war.

Cause I know the extra pool of wards helps somewhat before I'm forced to back to get charges again but even then I feel like Ruby sightstone is underpowered in that regard that there really isn't too much reason to upgrade it sooner.

Personally I'd like to see sightstone/ruby reworked to "HOLD" uses of other wards, not just be ward spamming charge items. As it stands currently you never have to think "SHOULD" I ward this bush? You think... eh why not I'm basing soon anyway, or eh I have 2 more free charges.

What if sightstone acted as an inventory expansion that added slots 8/9/0, and ruby allowed slots -/+ as well, and allowed it to hold pinks? This would fit in the the upcoming ping wards as well. These slots would only be able to hold wards. Perhaps these items would also reduce the cost of buying wards by a %. 50g/75g with sightstone and 25g/50g with ruby. This would provide the support with a reason to buy the items as a gold gen item.

Honestly they need to just change it so you can upgrade it again late game to give more stats. I'd say what they should do is just this. Make a item off of it that's level based. Like lets say you can make it once you hit level 16 and you can choose from like 3 they each give an additional stat(Armor,Magic Resist, More Hp). I mean i'm a support main personally, And yes I buy the item every game. But when it hits late game, it's such a bad item.

250 hp and no other stat is like nothing. And its like well do I sell this so we have no wards or suffer basically being a 5 item champ. I think making an upgrade that's level required would be perfect. That way you can't get it super early if your snowballed, but just to ensure that end game when everyone 6 items. You aren't super squishy compared to everyone else.

It was added before there was a limit to the amount of wards each player could place, so now it isn't very useful to upgrade anymore.

Ruby sightstones last longer than the regular ones i'm fairly certain. Its not just a health bonus.

I grab the Ruby upgrade on melee and tank supports just for the extra durability.

The ability to hold 5 wards, but only have 3 out is a bit of a problem seeing how it takes up an item slot and costs 800 gold to upgrade. Greater Stealth Totem, on the other hand, can hold 2 wards, has a 60 second recharge so you don't have to go back to base, the wards last just as long, doesn't take up an item slot, and is only 250 gold to upgrade.

Maybe adding another passive that increases the cap on wards you can place would improve the items, as there is a 250 gold trinket upgrade that does its job that everyone can get. Maybe have 5 stealth wards and 2 vision wards along with a more effective upgrade for Ruby Sightstone?
