NO ff until 20 vs. AFKS. A rant, by GodMaw (with bonus thoughts!)

What an idiotic concept. Punish someone who gives up a game... that's a great idea. No other professional sport is there a no surrender rule. You can surrender the SUPER BOWL in 1 second , why you can't surrender a normal blind pick game when you have 4 top laners is beyond me...

The idea is that people wait for a game, they have a right to play it... but what is really happening is people want to play and you force them to sit in front of their screens witnessing someone scream profanities at them for 45 minutes before they have a chance to try it again. Think about it, why would you force someone to do something they don't want to do? Especially a paying customer! Assuming someone had a few bad games in a row (which happens more than it doesn't) that person would essentially be wasting hours and hours sitting there in misery, unable to concede toxic games and also running the risk of punishment if he or she doesn't perform well in those games...

How can there be a report button for intentionally feeding, when a computer can't possibly determine a person's intent- right next to a button to report someone for leaving the game... basically you have to do well or you are punished by the system... and if you do bad, you will certainly be flamed by your team and group reported and possibly even auto-banned if you are foolish enough to defend yourself against your attackers.

Here's a very realistic scenario: Try a new champ in normal mode because there isn't a sandbox mode. Get ass kicked by experienced player, and feed 0/5. Lose lane and team gets angry at you because they are sore losers. What are your options?

Option 1: Afk, and get banned for leaving games. Can't do that. -Reported for **AFK **

Option 2: Return to lane and try not to die... didn't work the first 5 times, maybe number 6 will??? -Get reported for intentionally feeding.

Option 3: Surrender. You know you lost this game, maybe you can play in a bot game or a custom and learn how to play your champ better. 3 yes votes. 1 no vote. 1 person doesn't vote at all. The system determines your team doesn't want to surrender and you are left standing there on the platform with one guy on /all chat saying "Report this guy for trolling" -Reported for** assisting enemy team**... because literally every surrender vote is assisting the enemy team.

Option 4: Ignore your team entirely and try to push objectives. -Reported for failure to communicate (and possibly feeding again).

Option 5: Tell the people who are harassing you to stfu. -Reported for offensive language....

A system which encourages players to backstab their own team mates any time they aren't winning is pretty offensive.

Here's a thought: replace afks with bots. Allow anyone to quit at any time. Only give ip if you finish the game. Problem solved.

Riot needs to fix the report system. People who flame/hate on the team should be restricted a lot more than they currently are.

TC is correct in saying the game encourages backstabbing. Cause it does with it's current system of reporting. People flame, then tell everyone to report, meanwhile nothing actually happens to them so they do it the next game and next.

Not communicating should be a choice, if you don't want to talk, that's fine. But nobody is ever gonna be banned for that anyway so that's irrelevant. But it shouldn't be a report option.

If you're strictly talking about normals, then your suggestions are valid. In ranked you're ruining the game for other people who are playing competitively, which isn't ok in any sport. But in normals people can just play another game without any consequences so having AFKs replaced with bots shouldn't be a big deal.

There's quite a few flaws with your logic here, though.

First, and probably the main point. Flamers and haters are always going to be toxic in chat no matter what. There isn't much that will change that.

Secondly, if 2 players choose not to surrender, then they might think that THEY aren't losing the game too hard. Just because you are doing poorly does not mean everyone should cater to your wants.

Third, you should never be ignoring your team. The only time you have a genuine excuse for ignoring your entire team is when you get 4 AFKs (which I have seen on the opposing team).

Fourth, the reason why bots don't replace AFKs is to prevent the bots from feeding the enemy team. If you have played any bot games, you will know that they are not particularly good in comparison to even half-descent players.

Fifth, and I doubt that you think this, but if you believe that being banned for AFKing is unreasonable, then you would be delusional.

Sixth, if you are feeding badly in lane, and don't know how to avoid being killed (or play safe) then you are lacking a great amount of player knowledge. Never leave turret then, or learn to play safe in this game instead of just surrendering.

Seventh, the game does not encourage backstabbing. I have no idea why you would think this is the case.

Eighth, and more of an observation, a game of League of Legends and a game of the SuperBowl are too different to even compare. You don't have millions of players participating in the SuperBowl, the games are not as commonly played as game of League, the SuperBowl is recorded and streamed to millions of viewers etc.

thank you for taking the time to reply. I see your point about the super bowl, it may have been a bad analogy. Not being able to surrender though, is an aspect of control which i find offensive to all the people involved. A player who wants to give up isn't going to be helpful to the team in most situations. Also, ignoring your team might be the only option if you are losing lane... I have muted my entire team many times because they are just saying hate filled things. I'm Silver, and down here the game really sucks. It's not fun at all, and there are more ways to get banned than to get good.

As far as getting banned for afk being unreasonable, it is! What if you were playing your favorite Xbox game, and shut it off halfway through the level to go eat dinner, you came back and your xbox wouldn't let you play your favorite game anymore because you left... how is this not unreasonable? If I were playing basketball and wanted to go out of the game, it's as simple as walking to the bench and taking a seat. ESPECIALLY in a practice game........ these are normals we're talking about...

You can mute every player in the game without ignoring them. You still have to watch their movement on the map to see if they are focusing on something. I almost recommend muting everyone when you join a game. I don't play ranked, mostly because of the behaviors that are very common in it, and I am not playing the game to be competitive. I just play for fun, and watch the competitive side.

I would say that if you know that you are going to have dinner soon, the play a single player game. If a player leaves half-way through a basketball game, then it would leave the teams unbalanced. It's worse in League, since it is only 5 players, and each player actually has an important role. In normals, you don't get punished much for single AFKs, but if you are playing when you know that you only have around 25 minutes to spare, then it's on you if you get AFK banned. It still ruins the game for everyone else in the game (except the enemy if it is ranked. They'll love the elo boost!).
