How to get an S on Support!
I tried a few things, and since I've decided to main support, (The conscious decision I regret daily), I always wanted to get my babies to level 6 and 7 Mastery. Or course, when it comes to playing support, you aren't entitled to taking minions or kills, so you have to invent new ways to rack up points towards an S-, S or S+. So here it is, my simple guide to getting your support champions up to levels 6 and 7.
(Please note that I am not a professional, nor is this guide 100% accurate. More tests are needed. These results are based on my own successes done over numerous games playing the support role, and recount patterns that I've noticed that appear to work. Take it with a grain of salt.)
- Ward Everything
Okay, this one is a bit obvious, but when it comes to all supports, you got to be able to lay that shit out. Then again, it's not just about laying out wards. A number of wards should be met per minute, but you can't just throw down wards. Warding in places like Dragon and Baron pit are vital, and warding Blue and Red Buff areas seem to help too.
- Scan
Ward scanning has helped me tremendously. If you ever can, rush that
and get to going. be careful though, and make sure you disable as many wards as you can. The more, the better, and the closer you can get to a higher rating in game.
- Dragon and Baron/Rift Harold
Calling it out isn't just the job of the jungler. Protect your carries and help them grab an objective or two. This earns higher grades for all champions, but since you can't take minions as much, it's even more vital to you as a support. Since the warding and scanning things plays a role in this, don't be afraid to call dragon if you think your team can take it.
- Towers
The same idea as before, only this is more of a mandatory things, since it's what wins games. Partake in making sure that tower goes down, and if you see the opportunity, suicide for it. Especially since you happen to need the gold, taking towers with teammates gives you more reign over an area, and the quicker you do it, the more effective you've been in it. Don't just try to last hit it though, make sure you get your whole team prepared to turn it to rubble.
- Items
Selfish as some items are, it's obvious that some are designed for supports. Then again, I've noticed something. When it comes to using activatables, certain items are better for getting an S than others.
and,
aren't as valuable as say
, or
, because these items will greatly effect your ally's ability to fight. Be sure to get the most out of items like
,
,
,
, and even auras, like
, or
- Don't be afraid to die
It sounds like I'm encouraging you to feed, but I promise, this role is a lot more forgiving. If you've played other roles, it's typically more obvious that your goal is to not die too many times in order to get that glorious S rank. However, dying doesn't have to be a bad thing. Offering yourself as a sacrifice in order to get your team extra kills or objectives is actually a noble cause, and the more assists you get, the better you've been at helping your team rather than being selfish. As this rule applies to dying, it also applies to getting kills. A support that steals kills isn't nice, but if you know that your ally won't be able to get it, don't be afraid to blow flash to kill secure.
- Summoner Spells
Bringing
is nice and all for getting early kills, but it's really not that helpful. As per usual, bringing a more team oriented spell tends to help your score when used right, and using it often means that you're getting something out of it along with your team.
and
are better options to use than
or
, and they make you more of a support than normal. Combine these with the right masteries, and you can get better use out of the things you do most.
So that's it for my guide. Again, this is not 100% accurate, and is based on patterns I've noticed that get me those S+'s, and remember.
You can carry too!
