@Riot, stance on Malzahar, and potentiel revert/fix?

Christ Superstar·2/10/2017, 1:14:43 PM·75 votes·3,877 views

Title says it all really.

Reason I'm asking, is because a majority of players, very much including myself, seems to agree that the rework was a failure, as he's been so far removed from his original playstyle, they would much rather see a revert, as per polls in threads:

  1. Poll by GrReaper96
  2. Poll by myself

Results of those polls as of 2017.02.10 14:38 (UTC+01:00): 367/440 (83,4%) votes for him being reverted/reworked again.

So, what I actually need to know, is, if there's actually hope for a revert, another rework, overhaul of his current kit or if you're pretty happy with his current state? You sit with the information, your current standpoints and plans - so could you please make it clear what the future plans is for him as of now? Because I really hate hoping to see news about Malzahar, just to get dissappointed every single day.

At this point, I'm just interested in clarity from Riot. ;)

PS. Also, since you don't have a Malzahar player in your midst, I'd fix him for you! Pro bono - how bout dat! :P

Riot already did a sweep of the gameplay boards a few days ago and hand selected the few threads with items they actually wanted to talk about, like why can't braum ward hop lmao. They didn't acknowledge the Malz threads so don't hold your breath.

I love how it took for Malzahar to be played as support before everyone agreed his situation has gotten out of hand. Malzahar ought to be completely reverted and placed on the tier 1 rework list.

Riot only accepts player feedback when the players want what they were gonna do in the first place

I will tell you this I completely agree. I feel like the work done on Malz did more harm than good. We are stuck with a champion that is a mess. Riot needs to think about their choices going forward. The League of Legends community is finally catching on to the fact that certain Departments that work on champions . . . . are ruining them . . . . and the community is losing patience. Another problem is that instead of tackling the mistakes and reverting them, Riot will let that champion rot, ignore everything on them, and make the excuse that now the champion needs a VGU.

Riot will not get to all of these champions until 4+ years. They will not communicate. Riot will ignore all work on these champions outside of a nerf or numbers buff. No Department at Riot Games cares about fixing mistakes on champions, reverting the work done on them, working on the champions that really need it . . . . . because they now have an identity problem or are nothing like how they were before. Riot Games just doesn't care.

Riot games only cares about reworking Ryze 4 plus times. Riot cares about prioritizing work on Annie, Brand, and Velkoz. Riot cares about giving a mini-rework to champions like Reksai before rectifying mistakes and terrible work on champions for years now. Riot Games just doesn't care.

Look at Aatrox. Look at Vlad. Look at Skarner. Look at Karma. Look at Morde. Look at everything that isn't Ryze, Brand, Vel'koz, Annie, or Reksai. Riot games does not care anymore. 0 communication, 0 work being worked on the champions that really need it, the comment that these champions now need a VGU and we are expected to wait years now, and a Riot Games Development team telling a community member that a champion performing well in the LCS is a very clear indicator that a champion is healthy, has a great kit, a fantastic lore and theme, and amazing visual update . . . . . they are delusional at best. We know the champions Riot Games cares about. At the expense of 10 champion suffering for more than a year now, we will get another Ryze rework and a mini-rework on Reksai, who was recently released as a new champion.

Riot Games doesn't care.

It's Riot's 2nd biggest failure, the first being Dynamic Queue. They can't let go of this "beast master of summons!" type champ that doesn't work in a game like LoL. You know who else they tried this with? Kindred Quinn Azir

How'd that go?

I really wish Riot would freaking let us know what's going on. I just played a Malz game.. he feels SO bad. They just made his W more clunky, slower, he's less fun to play. Can't even do a proper all in combo because it takes too long time. It just feels soo bad. I miss when this champ was actually fun to play, and not a support that is only useful for his R :(

Reverts won't happen. When one happens people expect more. Plus a poll of 440 people in one region is no sign of what the actual player base wants.

Riot has been silent on Malzahar's state.

#Agreed. I just want to see some type of clarity from riot at this point.

I've said since the MYMU, that this was going to be a problem, either he'd be gutted due to grid lock style balancing issues or he'd be reverted. Which seem to be their only two options at this point. In another post I did a full analysis of every issue brought up in the malzahar direction thread and went through which were successfully achieved with his new kit (like 3/14 or something).

The rework to his kit seemed so poorly thought out that it pains me to think that it could get past riot's internal play testing.

tbh, if they claim that they like the current state of the champion, then i'll probably just stop playing league. If they are happy with the direction that this heavily flawed rework is headed, from my prospective it's just the nail in the coffin for how heavily flawed their design philosophy is currently. They've been digging themselves into their own grave for a few years now, and everyone has their own threshold for bullshit, and I'm thinking this is mine.

No one even cares about Malz. I'm still waiting for them to revert Sona back to her original state and admit they completely botched the 100 nerfs they gave her.

Used to play only Malz if possible pre-rework...Have not played him a single time since. He is completely different and looks boring with his stupid voidlings. Please revert Malz so i can enjoy this game again.

Rouwhorst2/10/2017, 6:15:48 PM1 votes

Well I liked the reworked Malzahar from 6.9 to 6.23. At first I was pretty negative about his update in 6.9, because things changed so drastically and the play style was not the same. Eventually I settled with him for top lane: short range is less problematic, shield is actually useful and voidlings can reach their target. In the beginning there were quite some frustrating moments with the voidlings: losing vision, enemy with aoe cc (voli(3s),jax(3s)) mitigate your damage quite hard and other champions can easily remove your ult(gp,olaf). I began to accept these weaknesses, but the continuous nerfing that followed pretty much removed the fun and the viability. Especially 2.23 changed a lot of things from Malzahar: being able to push and take dragon with voidlings(hp nerf), AS and DPS on voidlings, effective cooldown on W twice as high. And now, 7.3, Malzahar is not really viable and even less fun to play.

How about we get Riot to admit they botched the 100 Sona nerfs first and revert her back to her original state. Malz can wait longer.
