So as a support you can either build Ruby Sightstone or build Sightstone into your support item.

In what situations is it better to go for one or the other on supports?

I build Equinox currently on Alistar, but on op.gg it see FM+RS being common as well.

Really depends on if you want to full support or go damage support.

How does going with Equinox or Ruby Sightstone affect your damage at all?

Because sightstone and face of the mountain and boots are three core items.

games tend to not last long like they used to.

At first I was confused, but then I looked up that you were Bronze so now it all makes sense.

It often depends on priorities. Do you need Righteous Glory or some other item? Then go eye to move into that item quicker. Ruby Sighstone also has a benefit in an Item Active build if you can last longer without RG and Locket/Stoneplate.
