Should Urgot be a metapick?

The meta currently, as I've understood it, revolves around assassins. Urgot, being a super easy champion with an incredibly high skill-roof ultimate, is also a great counter to assassins, and he also deals almost just as much damage as other adc's without being too squishy (and therefore spend half a teamfight running away from assassins and bruisers instead of actually dealing damage). I love how his ult synergizes alot with supports like Blitzcrank and Thresh, who are currently god tier picks. He also synergizes with Lulu, another god tier pick. With her ultimate after he ults himself, he can put himself in the middle of the enemy team without them being able to kill him, allowing the rest of the team to mop up that high priority kill with ease.

Unlike a lot of adcs, he also has amazing duel potential because of his passive and kiting potential with shield + Q combo. I've even sent a hyperfed Irelia packing (who has anti-CC), just because of the spammability of his slow.

I understand his kit is weird for a lot of people, and he's highly underused. But everyone's complaining about how assassins were reworked and can now jump around the fight and kill adc's with ease. With urgot on your team, your opponent has to think twice about who to kill, because if they go after Urgot, they may end up killing themselves instead.

I don't understand how people can find it in their hearts to put Kog'Maw in their team without problems, a champion that has to die to even get a use out of his passive, but not Urgot.

With his rework coming up, I feel it's time to take one last look at the Urgot that we have now. Is he really useless as people claim? Is he really that hard to fit in a team? In my opinion the answer is no. He trades a little bit of damage for a great laning phase, a ton of protections, an assassin disabler ult, great synergy with god tier supports, and consistent soft-CC.

Urgot has a powerful laning phase then he starts to fall off as the game goes on. Late game it becomes increasingly more difficult to do the E Q combo. Also Urgots autoattack range is 425 meaning even Sivir out ranges Urgot, making nearly every adc better than Urgot late game. In short, Urgot wont ever be a semi popular meta pick untill his rework atleast

I've always liked Urgot. I barely play him anymore because I'm Bronze, and the mere act of picking him causes the entire team to blow up in toxicity.

I've never really felt like he needed reworked, and I'd hate to see him lose his identity the way Sion and Ryze had. The funny thing about Urgot is that his play rate/winrate aren't bad in Korea which is considered the gold standard for League players.

Urgot can be OP with the right builds. When i feel like playing him (i wanted actually to main him,but people be hatin' and i can't pick him or i stay more than an hour searching a match) i usually go top/mid,start tear, then go BC and then situational. If a carry is needed,penetration/bruiser. If a tank is needed, tank items (usually mostly armor).

Urgot's problem is that he does a little bit of everything, but kinda poor. He can attack you from afar, but he has graves range (425 irc). He can shield himself, but it scales with a bad stat (ap) and a needed stat that he can't really build (mana, unless you go tank, but even then meh). He has an awesome dueling passive thanks to the damage reduction that can help all the team, but he has no way to apply it since he is slow AF,and the same goes for his slow. He wants to be in your face (graves-like) but he has no way of doing so unless you accept the duel yourself, and if you do it means that you can actually win it. His ult is the only way for him to gapclose, but doing it on his main target may destroy the possibility for allies to follow up (this does depend on your allies intelligence, but if half the Zacs you find aim for the enemy while you're ulting them, and then blame you for the missed kill, you can't hope much).

That's why he is getting reworked. If you play him,you say "hell yeah, look that damage i did". If you play against, you say "wtf, why is it unavoidable".

So,is he useless? Yes and no. It all depends on the people with you in the match. He has bad stats early (unless you go TP/Ignite,in that case you may get 2-3 kills before level 9) and unless you build him full damage will become almost pure support late game, but building him full damage will let you become a bad version of MF: High damage both with autos and skills, but no way of escaping anyone who catches you or slows you (i know MF has her W,but it can be nullified by a slow) and you have almost no AoE.

So,for one time,i'm kind of happy that Riot is visiting my dear Urgot. He will become what i built most of the time: A ranged Juggernaut of Doom. I just hope that his E and Q stay almost the same with lower mana, maybe if they remove the lock-on but add on-hit they may let him be more rewarding without being extra-obnoxious,kind of like Ezreal
