What would happen if Riot removed Doran's items?

I remember back in S1, 2, and 3, I used to look at my allies starting items and go "hmmm, okay, interesting idea." Now it's just "Dorans, dorans, dorans, FQC starter or Relic Shield, and Machete or Talisman." I'm not feeling the variety that Riot is trying for with Corrupting Potion and Dark Mantle. That got me thinking: how would this game change if Doran's items just up and disappeared?

Now, I'm not making any propositions yet; rather I'm looking to discuss with you guys how the game would change or have to change if all three Doran's items disappeared. Are the other low cost items balanced enough to not break the game (long sword vs. amp tome; would boots become everyone's go-to)? Would some other items have to come down in price to create more opportunities (null-magic-mantle's price has been discussed before)?

Also, is anoyone seeing an abundance of Corrupting Potions or Dark Mantles that I'm not? Are they creating enough variety that this issue isn't actually a problem?

item 1054 = noob trap. Just don't buy it.

Probably just chaos.

Ever played Akali? Try her. Your first 30 seconds of the game will be staring at the shop. Doran's Ring is not really an option (wasted mana), while Amplifying Tome is way too expensive. You end up rolling with Boots, a Cloth Armor if against AD, or just pick up a Doran's Shield and play Tankali.

It'll be the same shit for a lot of champions. AD can manage with longswords, while AP will get hit hard. AD champions that don't scale that well with AD would suffer in the early game, and resort to buying Cloth Armor or Ruby Crystal. You'll get even more tanky laners, and ADCs/AD would dominate lane in addition to their already strong late games. The lack of Doran's Shield against AD won't help.

And AP will suffer even harder. You'd probably end up with a TP mid meta as the AP champions need to back early to buy useful items, which is just lame.

Not a good idea, to be honest.

yeah I never liked having to get those items on some champs. They don't build into anything so it just doesn't feel good buying them and everyone does the same thing. Would love to see some variety introduce with build paths into items you might actually use.

Tanks enjoy it best, AD champs start long sword three pots, AP champs probably start Corrupting Potion.
